But when they're not in use, they offer a beautiful spot to spend the night outdoors, with a commanding view of our manicured grounds and access to a wealth of outdoor recreation. The site includes both lean-tos, 2 picnic tables and fire ring. There is ample flat space on the ground, or pitch your tent on the deck in a lean-to for shade or shelter from the wind.
Guests are welcome to use our outdoor athletic facilities and playgrounds. Daily swimming pool memberships are available in-season. Just across the street, Mansfield Hollow State Park offers a variety of hiking, biking, running, paddling and picnicking opportunities within a few minutes drive. Also only 5 minutes up the road is the UConn main campus, with arts, entertainment, dining, exploration and the renowned UConn Dairy Bar ice-cream stop.
Since we are a functioning 23-acre summer day camp and event facility, you might expect to share the property with an outdoor gathering, wedding, or group lodging in our Farmhouse rental on the property. If that's the case we'll contact you at the time of your booking and let you know what to expect. The owners live on site, you may see them driving on the road below. I only stayed for one night but this was the perfect place to rest my weary bones.
The atmosphere was awesome and the lean-tos were clean and well maintained. There was a bit of confusion around the bathrooms and water being winterized for the season. But Jesse was super helpful and everything worked out great.
I would definitely stay here again.
I had a great time!
I had a great time, the spot is dirt cheep and very quite. The “Lean-Tos on the Hill” were great even when we received a huge rain storm that lasted most of the night. We were nice and dry tho it did take a while to start the fire.
The Fire Wood they give should be plenty but I brought along some fire logs just to be sure.
The best spot I have found for my money in the nearby camp grounds.
This brings me to a point, if your looking for a campground to make new friends, I went off season and it was very quite, this is what I wanted. I cant speak about prime time.
The lean-tos were a perfect setting as part of our daughter's wedding! The groom and groomsmen camped out in the lean-tos and tents the nights before and after the wedding. Very spacious, plenty of room for a large tent on the ground in addition to the lean tos. Bathhouse is a bit of a walk, but nice to have with showers available.
Great trip. Very convenient on the basics. Water, shower and bathrooms down the hill. Was nice and clean. Camp site is great too. Beware you will hear highway noise. This didn't bother me but it's good to point out. Plenty of fire wood. Great host.
We had a great time. Easy to find and very clean. Friendly staff. The Lean-to's were huge and well built and the fire ring was immense. Remember to bring a grate if you want to cook easily over it due to that size though. Ton's of things to do nearby and loads of hiking trails just across the street. Would definitely return.
Lovely site. Jesse is a fantastic host. Beautiful, lovely sounds of birds chirping. Great amenities (water, bathroom, shower, firewood) plus other stuff available on the site like swimming pool, PICKLEBALL! Great nature (state park) and restaurants available nearby.
I really enjoyed my stay at Jesse's land it was just me and my friend and we had the whole space for us, the area has every you need, just make sure to bring already cooked meals as the firering doesnt have a grill where to cook on. I went during a full moon and the moon rise was breath taking.
This was a great base camp for the hikes available nearby. The lean-to provided extra protection from the wind, rain and cold. The firewood was plentiful & dry, and the site was very clean. As the bathrooms are closed this time of year, the outhouse just up the path was sufficient - but make sure to bring a light with you, even in the daytime.
Jesse was very responsive even before I booked, and he made sure to meet me before I left. Very pleasant & helpful. Otherwise, no one bothered me, which was what I was looking for.
I would definitely book a stay here again!
