LATHROP STATE PARKLathrop State Park is a Colorado state park located 3 miles west of Walsenburg. The state purchased the property in 1962 and opened Colorado's first state park here later that same year. It is named after Harold Lathrop, the first director of state parks. The park features two lakes, Martin Lake and Horseshoe Lake, that offer fishing for tiger muskie, rainbow trout, bass, catfish, northern pike, blue gill, saugeye, and wipers. Park also has a golf course.

CUCHARA MOUNTAIN PARK: This park is still developing, but very much on the right track. By this fall it is expected that lift four is to be running providing mountain bike access and some decent short ski runs. Add to that cross country skiing, snow shoeing, frisbee golf and miniature golf, all on low cost end.

GREAT SAND DUNES NATIONAL PARKGreat Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve is an American national park that conserves an area of large sand dunes up to 750 feet tall on the eastern edge of the San Luis Valley, and an adjacent national preserve in the Sangre de Cristo Range, in south-central Colorado, United States. Hiking, backpacking, sand boarding and sand sledding, and swimming in Medano creek.

SOUTHWEST RIDGE: Hike the nearby 14ers, or hunt on the rugged terrain that is only minutes away. Plenty of BLM land to explore with 4x4s, Rtvs, and mountain bikes. and quaint towns like La Veta and Cuchara with museums, art displays, restaurants and more.
