We love z ranch!
Alice was a lovely host and the ranch had a wonderful, late summer atmosphere. We loved walking up the stairs to take in the view. And it was so fun visiting with the animals. And a zebra?! C'mon, she has a zebra!! The little guy ran right over to us for a few handfuls of hay. It really was a wonderful basecamp to visit Paso Robles and the wineries in the area. I think we will be back. :-)
Great experience on the z-ranch
Alice was accommodating, and the kids enjoyed the farm-fresh eggs and being able to see the Zebra, Alpacas, longhorn cattle, horses and chickens up close.. The site itself was, as advertised, quite minimal; set down the hill from the main house and consisted of a dirt area set near some trees. Our kids (8-9 year olds), were very pleased with this unique camping experience, and the solitude it offered at night was a nice break from bustling campgrounds. No picnic table at the site was expected, but an area for potential improvement. Also worth noting is that the site, when not occupied, is an area where animals can go, so there is the expected droppings of animals among the trees not far from the camp. This did not bother us (part of being on the ranch) but may others who might not expect it. The site has good access to paso robles (5-10 min) and central coast town of Cambria (30min).
Stayed here after a trip to Oceano Dunes. Great place to unwind snd relax. Had a private area away from the house to park the trailer but had walking access to the property. Enjoyed seeing all the animals even though Floyd the zebra tried to eat my hat while we posed for a picture with him 😂. Even bought some fresh eggs from the Z Ranch chickens.
Great for the little ones!
Great spot for the kids! They loved seeing and petting all the animals. The actual campsite is a basic dirt spot by the old tractor. Not really tent friendly in my opinion, which I did, (lots of horse/cattle poop around) but if you have a camper van/RV it’s a good/safe spot for the night. Worth the money just for the animals and kids having fun.
Nice start to our adventure!
Such a nice little getaway for us! Alice met us upon arrival and we immediately took her up on the offer of fresh chicken and duck eggs. So good for breakfast. Be sure to return the carton, they are a commodity! The site is rustic; pack in and pack out, as advertised. We parked right next to the old tractor where the ground was most level. We walked the property, climbed the stairs to a pad with lovely views of the ranchland. Fun for the kids: I'd recommend the horseback riding. Mazie, Alice's daughter, is so knowledgeable and turns an hour ride into a learning excursion. Great start to our summer journey. Thank you!
