If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Great spot if you want to do a lot
Staying here was really great! The only things we struggled with there that there wasn’t a lot of shade, so I would recommend bringing your own if you have one. Also, there’s only one bathroom so it can get tricky when there are a lot of folks staying there. As far as the site goes, though, it’s a great spot that is SUPER close to downtown Ojai and a quick drive to so many great spots! We were able to check out Lake Casitas, San Buenaventura beach, and downtown Ojai in the span of a few hours. Big thanks to Vivian for providing the list of things to do in the area- it helped us finesse our trip as we planned. Also, we were able to hang out hammock in the oak grove, and that was truly a great way to start the weekend.
Wonderful well loved property!
Vivian was great with communication and our group had an amazing time! The porta-potty was so clean and always fully stocked and even had a sink with soap. Also, the hot shower was a real treat. We took our dogs on a walk around and found a great trail that lead to a beautiful dry creek bed. Our spot had a some trees, which was great, but it's definitely a good idea to bring a tarp for extra shade. We were a group of 9 and got two spots next to each other and it was a perfect set up. Each site had a picnic table and fire pit and Vivian was great about letting us move things around. We also appreciated the trash bins, so we didn't have to pack out any trash. We also stopped at a vineyard before arriving. Great location with lots of wonderful things in the area to experience. We would absolutely stay here again!
Great location, well-equipped sites
We had a great time staying with Vivian! The sites were equipped with trashcans, fire pits, and picnic tables. We were a 10 minute drive to the lake and Old Creek Winery, and were just 15 minutes from the beach.
Vivian and her husband Dave were very nice and welcoming. They have horses, chickens, and goats - all making for an authentic ranch experience.
We really enjoyed our time and hope to be back soon!
First off, Vivian was a great host. Great communicator, quick responses to questions, and full of local intel.
However, we were looking for a more traditional camping experience for our boy with some trees, trails, and somewhere to explore on his bike. But if you are just looking for a place to crash for a night or two, it’s fine. Plenty of firewood, clean toilet and close to the beach and to Ojai.
Pro tip: If you’re a light sleeper, it’s fairly close to a road (with early am construction) and very talkative roosters. Bring some ear plugs.
Vivian has added a lot of nice touches to the rustic campsites and shared that she is planning more for the future, including some new plantings.
Great place near ventura/ojai
Great central location between Ventura and Ojai. 4 tent/car camping spots, each with their own picnic table, fire pit, and trash/recycling/compost bins. Looks like there is also an RV hookup spot available. Vivian is excellent -she even stayed up very late on our first night to make sure we found the campsite alright. There is also one shared porte-potty for the campers, as well as a shared shower tent w/ hot water. Not exactly "remote" camping, but it was a nice setup for a few nights, and we were lucky to have the place to ourselves. Horses, goats, chickens, cats, and dogs also on the property, but do not interfere w/ the camping sites.
A good value
Vivian was super nice and friendly. The hot shower was fantastic and the bathroom was clean. Good location and is close to Ojai for food, shopping, coffee and farmers markets. There was no shade but after talking to Vivian she said they will be planting trees. We would highly recommend signage and address to locate the driveway and location. Most of our time was spent exploring Ojai and the surrounding area. We had a great Saturday afternoon at camp after our warm shower and sitting at camp enjoying the warm day. We took lots of pictures and watched the large birds soaring in the sky.
We have done a lot of hip-camping and this ranch-camp is a good value for average accommodations.
Ok place to crash for the nite
Vivian was very nice but this campsite wasn’t what we thought it would be. Perfect spot for someone who just wants a spacious patch to pitch a tent for the night but lacking in natural beauty or solitude. Vivian provided plenty of information about the dam project but we didn’t realize how close together and open the campsites were.
