Muir's Muse was a wonderful get away! My partner, my two dogs, and I had a wonderful time and hope we can go back sometime. Deana was very communicative and clear about what we would need to bring and how to find the place--even though we arrived after dark we had no problem getting to the cabin. The cabin and property are clean and well cared for and it's a very quiet and peaceful place. Her parents, Bob and Vicky, were staying up the road and were very kind and generous, sharing fresh eggs and some delicious cake with us. Their dog, Spike, was a cutie and they were really considerate of our dogs, keeping Spike on leash or in the house while we were there since our smaller dogs can be barky. We spent one day just relaxing and enjoying the space and the other day we hiked pioneer trail to the beautiful Bear River. If we had kept hiking it looks like you can hike all the way to Emerald Pools. There were fire restrictions in place so we didn't have a campfire, but the camp heater kept us warm and cozy and the stove worked really well to make our meals--the starter on the stove was a little slow so I recommend using a lighter to light it but other than that it worked like a charm. We ended up heading out a little early to beat traffic back to Santa Cruz but we would have loved to stay longer and hope to come back again.

Great little cabin in the middle of one of our favorite places in the world! We were there during warmer months and the retreat cabin met our accommodation needs. We enjoyed the peaceful pine forest surrounding, and took an easy day trip out to Bowman Lake and Fuller Lake.

We had a great time at Muir's Muse! The cabin is very much like the photos, the setting is beautiful and peaceful. We stayed for a weekend with our dog and 6 month old and had a great time hiking pioneer trailing and heading into Nevada City for some fun! Would definitely recommend!

Honestly, a perfect getaway from city living. This cute cabin in the woods really does the trick - quiet, quaint, and relaxing. We spend our days hiking the Pioneer Trail and kayaking at Lake Spaulding and the nights star gazing. Would highly recommend.

Tip: bring a mid weight blanked or sleeping bag, even in summer - we brought a light blanket and were a little cold during the night. That’s on us - we should’ve looked at the weather ahead of time!

I loved staying in Muirs Muse. I'd had my eye on the hipcamp listing, and when I had a few free days that coincided with the cabin being available, I jumped on it.

The forest is so peaceful, the stars are gorgeous. There is great hiking and swimming close by. There is an outdoor solar shower, but other than that, no running water, so make sure to bring your own. The host was friendly, regularly checking in to make sure I had everything I needed.

Thanks so much for creating such a beautiful retreat.

Muirs Muse was a true campers dream. It had everything you needed to be immersed in nature with the necessary amenities. The futon was just perfect and the option to have our dogs was a huge perk! It’s obvious that the little cabin was built with love. The property itself it’s perfectly located and close to many desired hiking/site seeing areas including Emerald Pools and Spaulding Lake, both are less than 25 minutes away. Even though the cabin is located on the owners property, we felt completely separate. It was private and peaceful. The best part was by far the cabins surroundings. Beautiful trees and sounds of birds chirping will take your breath away. We will definitely be back!

Although the dates we booked months in advance turned out to be one of the hottest for the west coast, Muirs Muse Retreat treated us nice. The location is roughly 30-40 minutes to Truckee, and just another 30-90 mins to Lake Tahoe from Truckee, depending on where you go.

We would love to go back and visit in the winter and get a chance to burn some wood in the fire pit.

My husband and I had a really nice stay here. I can’t say much more than the other lovely pictures and positive reviews, but I will add that Bob was really sweet and kind — we were there during a heatwave and he brought us some frozen watermelon! — and Josie was just the darlingest pup to have around. The surroundings were so idyllic and proximity to the Grouse Ridge area and Emerald Pools was a huge plus. We’re going to try and come back in the fall!

This is my 3rd time staying at Muir's Muse and it was just as wonderful as it's always been. There's fun for me and my two furbabies. One loves to run around the grounds collecting pinecones. While the other prefers laying on the porch or near a nice tree. Fun for everyone!

I was also fortunate enough to meet Deanna's dad, Bobby, and his wonderful dog, Josie. Both incredibly sweet and very helfpul.

I highly recommend Muir's Muse for everyone!
