Similar to a treehouse, this unique little cottage sits on an elevated deck wrapped around an old growth Redwood stump and is surrounded by large Redwood trees. The stump house is large enough for 2 sleeping pads inside and there is space on the deck for one more, however please note that the deck is not covered. A quick walk downhill brings you to our family's farm (where farm products are available for purchase, see below) and above the stump house are old logging roads and acres of forest land. Neighbors are nearby but not visible due to the lush environment and large neighboring acreages. The air is clean and fresh as we are 5 miles from the ocean and surrounded by forests. As far as history, our land was logged in 1915 and several old growth stumps are scattered on the property as evidence. Since then the forest has regrown and the young trees are already hundreds of feet tall. A twenty minute bike ride or five minute car ride will bring you to one of two nearby towns, and spectacular beaches are also close by.

Eureka just minutes to the south and Arcata just minutes to the north offer dining and entertainment of all kinds. Farmers markets, movie theaters, live music, boat tours of Humboldt Bay, breweries, wineries, cider companies, roller-derby and more, there is always something fun to do in the area. Outdoor walks and hikes in both the forest and along beautiful beaches and coastline are abundant. Patrick's Point State Park and the town of Trinidad 15 to 20 minutes drive north offer some of the most breathtaking coastal views and beaches in the country. With 6 rivers, 3 lagoons, Humboldt Bay and the ocean nearby there are almost always opportunities for great fishing. If gambling is your thing there are 3 casinos just a 10 to 20 minute drive away. If you would like directions or advice on things to do please feel free to ask us!

Fresh eggs, cream top cow milk and yogurt can be purchased in the barn when available as well as soaps, salves, tinctures and hydrosol, all produced right on the farm!

We hope you will consider staying at the Redwood Stumphouse on your next trip to Northern California.

Stunning landscape, accommodating hosts. The stump house is absolutely charming, and I’d definitely recommend it above a motel. I wish anyone staying here the best, and I know they’ll have a great time.

The redwood stump is such a magical little retreat in the woods I returned for a second trip. So cozy! I recommend brining some string lights which added so much to our experience. Jamie is an excellent host and helped me to feel welcome and comfortable and the shower is just lovely.

The Redwood Stumphouse is a peaceful and rustic retreat. This unique shelter was comfortable for 2 and had a close-by picnic table. The walk from the parking area to the site is steep hike, but the well-carved stairs make the site safe and accessible. We arrived late because of a closure in CA-101 South—apparently, this has happened to guests before, so check the road status before driving through there. Due to our delay, the setup required some stamina after a long day on the road. But a rinse-off in the beautifully-crafted outdoor shower with plants surrounding and aromatherapeutic wash provided the perfect recharge to get the food and gear to the site. We had a really nice camping experience and woke up in the middle of a Redwood forest. Pretty special.

It is exactly what it looks like with plenty of privacy. A short walk to pack things to camp and the outdoor showers are amazing. If you are looking for a nature trip this is the way to go

What a beautiful, peaceful spot! A perfect location to stop over on your way to or from Redwood NP, and a nice upgrade from a typical campsite. Easy access to town if needed. I really enjoyed sitting and reading on the deck (bring your camp chair) and stopping by the farm stand. The hot outdoor shower was amazing, especially given the chilly weather! Jamie was a wonderful host, and I felt very comfortable staying here a solo female traveler.

Sleeping amongst the tree and next to a giant stump was super nice. The inside of the living space felt confined for perfect nice weather so we decided to pitch it on the deck which was just enough to pitch a 2 person tent and play some guitar. The inside of the Stumphouse fits two sleeping bags, we kept most of our stuff in there. The outside deck, in my opinion is where you get more of an elevated feel like you are in a treehouse and you can’t really tell that in pictures. The hosts were so nice and chill. Such a great land too with a small farm off in the distance.

Would stay again.
