Welcome! Camp Owl Pine is a fully outfitted camping experience for adventurers/city dwellers alike. It's a magical spot on one corner of our historic two-acre property on Strawberry Creek. At the "top of town," it's a mix of nature and civilization (you are not alone in backcountry wilderness, there are neighbors and the property is on a road near a cafe).  It's an easy walk straight down to the village or 5 min drive to major hikes.

.

Camp's designed to be a low-key/relaxing/inspiring experience away from the daily hustle and bustle.  You can literally pack a bag and visit. The typical camping trip? First you'll reserve a patch of asphalt at your chosen campground and then you have to find/buy/pack all your gear (cook stove, dishes, pantry items, linens/towels, propane, soap, chairs, lights, games, hammocks, etc.). At the end of that trip, you have to schlep it all back home.  Camp Owl Pine saves you all this hassle so you can simply enjoy being outside!  Unplug & enjoy the mountain air! Instagram @TheOwlPine

.

Camp's lighting is powered by rechargeable batteries.

.

While on the property you can: listen to the crunch of leaves as you walk original rock paths (circa 1920s) down to Strawberry Creek, enjoy the sound of live music from a neighboring cafe, star gaze (Idyllwild is home to AstroCamp), collect pinecones, forage wild mint, smell the dirt, spot animals including deer/birds/squirrels/raccoons/coyotes, commune with nature. Undeveloped for almost 100 years, the property also features an unparalleled landscape of boulders, pine, oak, cedar, fir, sequoia, wild cherry trees, manzanita, holly, etc. Depending on the season, discover wild strawberries, roses, Humboldt lilies, sweet peas, and more in this ever-changing environment. In the distance is the summerhouse and guest cabin.

.

Idyllwild (population 3,870) is known for fresh air, mountain vistas and is a hub for hikers along the 2,600 mile Pacific Crest Trail. San Jacinto mountain highlights include world-class rock climbing, mountain biking, and hiking. That said, the property is in "town" and near residential neighbors/restaurants. Our camp is ideal for outdoor lovers who want to walk to dinner - it's a magical mix of nature/access to the village.

Camp Owl Pine is an incredible spot nestled in the Idyllwild mountains. It has everything you need and nothing you don’t. Enjoy one of the many local hikes, grab a bite at some of the cute restaurants, and have an afternoon hang in the hammocks. I’d highly recommend staying at Camp Owl Pine if you’re looking for an adventurous stay in Idyllwild.

What an incredible, unforgettable weekend. The site that Michael and Cat have set up is perfect. Rustic enough, but still perfectly comfortable for city-dwellers like us. We had never used hipcamp before, and this was a perfect first experience. Why have we been cheating ourselves by staying in hotels when we travel??? Michael was super cool, and showed us around the property, as well as made sure we knew how to operate all of the amenities there. Anything we needed during our trip, they were just a text message away. The property is a short walk from the center of Idyllwild, but just far enough to be away from the weekend crowds. I can go on and on, but you really just need to experience Camp Owl Pine for yourself!

Unforgettable anniversary weekend!

This place was great! Just what we needed, a little break away from SD. Other people posted the restaurant across the street was loud but we didn’t find it a problem at all and if we didn’t care for the music we just played our own speaker. This place truly had everything. A solid bathroom, a hot shower, and a comfy bed. And an ice chest and cooking supplies. We honestly brought to much. What was also cool is that is about a 15 min walk or so into town where the shops are. We did that once just because it was hot as hell but even if you wanted to drive it’s like 5 mins. So extremely close to everything. It was hard to find at first but that’s because the signs pretty hidden but overall we would come back. Michael was also great! He helped us out whenever we had questions or needed help. Ps: do keep in mind there isn’t much service in this location so if you need to make important calls or texts, do it in town. Happy glamping!

What a treat it was to stay at Camp Owl Pine! My husband, 9 year old son, and I stayed here at the end of July to escape the San Diego heat and we were lucky it was cooler in Idyllwild and were really lucky to be treated with a short thunderstorm overnight. The sleeping arrangements and camp set up was just as others have reviewed and just perfect for the 3 of us. They had everything you normally would take with you when tent camping so we were delighted to not have to pack all of that extra stuff.

Mike and Cat were great hosts and have such a nice set up that we would definitely return. I even forgot an item and Mike sent it back to me! Thank you Mike and Cat!

A couple of notes about Idyllwild.... with the drought, the creek is pretty much dry. There were a couple of puddles where you can see the fish but the creek isn't actively running as it usually is. We also stayed during the weekday and found out that the majority of the restaurants in town closed by 6pm. The two near Camp Owl Pine were open for dinner but unfortunately the rest were closed.

My stay at this location was amazing. When I first arrived, I could not find the exact location to park but Michael(host) helped my wife and I on finding the exact location immediately arriving. Everything was clean from the pots to the blankets that we slept on. Also they have a adventure pass that are needed in order to go hike in this area. The hosts are very attentive and respond very quick when I had any questions or concerns. I definitely will be returning.
