Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation. Splitrock Farm Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers. Splitrock Retreat Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 200 foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Over 40 miles of coastline includes views to Point Loma, the Carlsbad power station, and the Pendleton Hospital. To the northeast are views of near 11K foot snowy peaks of San Jacinto and San Gorgonio, with rolling hills of De Luz and Fallbrook in the foreground.

Splitrock Valley - Jurassic Jungle
Great place.
Quick 2 night trip. Did the Jurassic site the first night, and split rock the second. Split rock was my favorite, although both are great spots. Might sky was amazing!

The Oak Grove Communal Camp
Not
Had a lot of fun at split rock, but a few things were not really up to my expectations. When we drove in, we saw a big trailer that said Camp store. We assumed that this was the area with the bathrooms and supplies you could buy, so we walked down from Oak Grove to check it out, but it was nothing but a bunch of junk and a washer and dryer… We couldn’t find the toilets and we left wandering around. We finally realized that there was a big trailer on the actual Oak Grove property (oops!) but there were no supplies to buy, and they were out of the 1 thing we wanted— s’mores kits! :( The trailer was full of a bunch of stuff being stored, and there was a note on the whiteboard that the first toilet would not work for anything but urine… but the other bathroom was locked the whole time! They also ran out of toilet paper and it was so dark in there, you couldn’t see anything! This space could definitely use some love and attention. The Oak Grove also needs more fire pits! Not every party had one which is tough. Besides that, we loved the farm animals, dogs, and quiet area. It doesn’t feel super removed from the city which kind of stinks to get the “full camping experience”, but it is nice if you want cell service or to be close by civilization. Thank you for a weekend away!
