Want the camping experience but don’t have the extra time to hike into your site? Car Camping is the choice for you! If you are passing through town on your road trip (we are located 3.5 miles off Highway 101 in the town of Laytonville), you can park your car and have the convenience of camping right next to your vehicle. Set up your tent on fresh grass at the side of the Mill Creek (formally Mill Pond) under the shade of a line of Cottonwood trees. It’s an easy in and out and a relatively quiet overnight stay, so long as you don't mind the songs of the frogs in the creek. Our car camping sites are located across the way from the Central Camper's Kitchen (communal outdoor kitchen) and the Stage. Although no fires are allowed at the car camping sites, you can still enjoy the communal fire pit at the Camper's Kitchen (on weekends) and charcoal grills about 50 feet away. If you have the time, hike up to the Reservoir and take a dip! Porta potties and hot showers are available about 150 feet away.
Currently reservation requests for this campsite are set for 3 campers. Each site is able to host 4 campers max (with a maximum of 3 tents allowed per site). When booking the site for more than 4 guests please edit your request to reflect accurate headcount information by booking additional car camping sites (can't find two sites adjacent to each other online? Don't worry, we will help you on site to park multiple car campsites together!).
*Please note that Mill Pond is now Mill Creek. We will continue to keep the pond as a lush riparian basin this season in a cooperative effort with the Eel River Recovery Project to keep fresh water heading downstream and back to the Eel River.
**A NOTE ABOUT CAR SIZES: Our car camping sites are limited to 12' length vehicles maximum. If your vehicle is longer, please let us know as there are separate spaces for parking larger RVs and trailersPlease note we do not offer RV hookups or water for these vehicle spaces, just longer spots for folks with a little more junk in the trunk!

There will be no personal campfires allowed at Mendocino Magic for the 2021 season. Campers wishing to have a campfire are invited to join us at the communal propane fire disk (by the Central Camper's Kitchen) where it is safest. We do allow personal propane stoves for cooking (not propane firepits), which we have available to rent at the Front Porch. We hate having to take campfires out of the camping experience, but fire season is a scary time of year for everyone, and we all must do our part to ensure the safety of our community. During a fire ban, please do not start a fire at any camp's fire ring - guests who do so will be asked to leave without a refund.

Just the thing
I love coming to Mendocino Magic. There are a variety of sites at different price points, and a bunch of activities; hiking, swimming, fishing, and now even paintball. Since I've been coming with friends for a while, and have gotten a feel for a place I decided to do a solo camping trip this weekend. My first ever. I was looking forward to camping in the rain and just reading and relaxing. Mack and Chuck came to check if I needed anything occasionally, and brought a big jug cooler full of ice water. It was an amazing trip that I will definitely fold into the fabric of my life as a regular excursion.
We had such a great stay! Would definitely come again :) the reservoir was lovely (many fish were caught [and released]) and Mackenzie was very friendly and provided anything we needed!
Such a great stay! Exactly as pictured/described. We arrived late in the evening on a Wednesday and there were only a few people there. Hot outdoor showers were lovely and there's a large reservoir just a quick hike away with kayaks and canoes, paddles, lifevests, etc!
Mackenzie was quick to respond to inquiries. Would definitely stay again!
I had an absolutely amazing time at Mendocino Magic. What a beautiful property. The reservoir was super nice, and my puppy's first boat trip was most memorable. The staff was super friendly and helpful.
I will definitely be back.
Mackenzie was very welcoming and accommodating! The camper's orchard was wonderful with hot showers and tons of space. We spent time at the reservoir hiking, swimming and kayaking with the kayaks that were available for use. We had such a wonderful time! Don't forget to hike up the hill to watch the stars!
