Cannonball Camp is a quiet, private campsite right on the Holland Reservoir, with easy access to trails. Enjoy the sunrise and sunset in an isolated location with some of the best stargazing on the property.  There is flat ground to pitch your tent on, a picnic table to enjoy meals at, a fire pit (for use only when a fire ban is not in effect), some shade (we recommend bringing more) and gorgeous views all around. The proximity to the water is what people like the most about this site – you can step out of your tent in the morning and jump right in! This site is perfect for larger groups.

There is no car access to Cannonball Camp. To get to this site you will park your car at the parking area, and hike about a half mile (~15 minutes) using the footpath around the Reservoir.  Prepare to hike camping gear up to the campsite without hand carts as there are steps and a hilly terrain to traverse. Since you will be carrying your gear to the site, we recommend that you pack lightly.

Currently reservation requests for this campsite are set for up to 5 campers. When booking the site for more than 5 guests please edit your request to reflect accurate headcount information in advance of your arrival. Additional campers are $30 per adult nightly.

SMOKE ONLY IN DESIGNATED AREAS

$5 for every cigarette butt picked up after private events & campouts

There will be no personal campfires allowed at Mendocino Magic for the 2021 season. Campers wishing to have a campfire are invited to join us at the communal propane fire disk (by the Central Camper's Kitchen) where it is safest. We do allow personal propane stoves for cooking (not propane firepits), which we have available to rent at the Front Porch. We hate having to take campfires out of the camping experience, but fire season is a scary time of year for everyone, and we all must do our part to ensure the safety of our community. During a fire ban, please do not start a fire at any camp's fire ring - guests who do so will be asked to leave without a refund.

Cannonball camp was GLORIOUS!!! It was the perfect spot overlooking the lake surrounded by trees. Our favorite part was spending the whole day on the dock in the middle of the lake jumping in the water and kayaking around. Mackenzie was an awesome host and I would definitely stay here again. 10/10!

Our trip to Cannonball Camp was incredible! The camp site itself is standard, with a wood structure with a built in "bar" for preparing food. However, the reservoir and surrounding nature is awesome! The host Mackenzie was one of the most helpful hosts I've had, bringing us water and ice when we requested, as well as making sure we were having a good time.

We also opted for the additional paintball add on, this was also a great call because Mackenzie and Chuck took us to the site (on property) and we had an absolute blast!

Overall could not recommend this site and host enough. 100% will be returning here in the future.

Overall Mendocino Magic was great. We loved using the canoes and swimming in the lake, especially at one of the shadier beaches, which had a big log for jumping in. Everyone we met at the camp was friendly. If we return, I think we'll opt for one of the less pricey sites. The benefits of Cannonball were the shade structure and privacy. The downsides were the ground was super hard (made staking the tent difficult) and it was pretty far from parking (spent a lot of time going back and forth for supplies/trash). I'd be happy to put up with this and other nitpicky things like cleanliness of site/bathrooms if I was paying a bit less.

Incredible camping trip at an incredible site! Cannonball Camp was spacious, private, and just steps away from the lake. There were plenty of kayaks, paddleboards, and canoes available to borrow and lots of places to explore on the water. The picnic table area was nicely shaded with plenty of space for food and gear storage. Bring extra sun shade as it gets hot and sunny during the day. We also brought a yellow jacket trap to keep them away from our food - highly recommend packing one especially during the summer months. The campsite is near a trail but because there’s a separate dock area for people to launch kayaks, there was barely any foot traffic near our spot the entire weekend. Overall the views and easy access to the lake made this a relaxing and memorable trip!

Steps away from lake access - a semi-private launching point for kayaks and paddle boards. The shaded picnic table area - brought an extra sun tarp for some more shade.Drone footage of the lake, with Cannonball Camp at the 12 o'clock position.

We loved staying at the Cannonball camp. I read most of the reviews so I had some sort of idea how beautiful it is but when I got there it was even more beautiful that words cannot describe. Mackenzie and her staff were so warm and welcoming and made our stay special. If you want to have a weekend to reconnect I would highly recommend heading to Mendocino Magic. One thing I would only suggest is to bring biodegradable hygiene products.

What an amazing gem of a place with a lot of potential. Makenzie has done a wonderful job here. She was very easy to communicate with, brought us freshwater everyday And accommodated our silly requests for extra amenities. We loved the lake and the walls that provide scenic rolling hills in every direction. I will say that there are a few improvements that I know McKenzie is making over the next few months and years that well greatly increase the quality of staying here. I’m excited to see it in a couple years. One of our favorites is her plan to have a frisbee golf course (which we are big fans of).

There were a few improvements that I think would’ve made our stay a little bit better. Only a few feet away from our Tents was a Barbwire fence. I also saw some Barbwire and rusted metal throughout the property. It’s one thing if you’re camping with just adults but we had children with us too. We also realized only a couple weeks before we left that we couldn’t have campfires due to a Mendocino code. This is a pretty devastating blow of California camping these days, however I think if she had set up gas fire pit before we came it wouldn’t have been missed so much. I think she has plans for gas fire pits as well. I will say that there is a communal campfire down at the main camp but it was a bit too far and too late for us to walk every night. We also were asked to pack out our trash and recycling (only a couple bags for three families) but no specific place to take it. I think overall the price could’ve have been a bit less for the infrastructure that is currently in place, but the beauty of the property and the lake and privacy of the property give this a unique aspect you can’t find in many places!

Just as expected, we had another amazing trip on the campground. MacKenzie was an amazing host as usual, very helpful and hospitable. Swimming and conoeing are a highlight here, and the hiking loop around the lake is very pleasant. Take advantage of all the things you can do here. I highly reccomend booking 3 nights because 2 nights havent been enough for us!

We had a nice getaway at cannonball camp. All the staff were welcoming and helpful. The host was really responsive and took us up to our campsite when we arrived after dark. Other guests were really nice even though they were a little louder than I would have liked. Really enjoyed the walks and views. Hoping to visit again.
