If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
The campground is nice, the hosts were not. I guess we are the last to stay at this site because there’s a hornets nest and instead of contacting us about it before they let us set up camp and then yell at us because of parking and they have us mixed information on that.
Such a neat little hidden away treasure of a campground ! Truly a beautiful place, the small lake filled with birds was beautiful all times of day, and all the sites looked amazing, but our site at T16 was just perfect for the vibe we wanted while camping. A bit further away from the water, which ended up being favorable as our avian neighbors were quite talkative at all hours, but more secluded from the bulk of the other sites, making it a really wonderful couples getaway spot, tucked away amongst the little grove of trees that were perfect for a hammock for two. The diner at the entrance also made some really good food, and the owners were super nice.
Awesome site away from the other sites. A little smaller. We fit three tents with no problem. Host was super thoughtful and emailed concerning an event during the day that day that might’ve conflicted, but there were no issues. They answered all of my follow-up questions. They treated my friends with courtesy and respect and great customer service when they arrived early and inquired about pets, extra cars, etc.
The disc golf course is one of the top courses in Northern California and always generates memorable rounds and experiences.
Frank’s diner serves up delicious food at a great price and offers great service and plenty of outdoor seating to relax in the shade and enjoy a gorgeous view of the lake.
This site is definitely the most private, for that reason we loved it . Had a beautiful view of the lake. Had shade all day and amazingly it is a flate site ! 😮... the cons... 🐝they yellow jackets.! They have put up traps but its still a big problem. I have a screened in porch on my tent so in the morning and afternoon, when they are active, we made food as quickly as possible and raced into the porch. While we ate there must have been 20-30 yellow jackets trying to get in! We had to zip up the windows and wait for them to leave before we could get out. Thank goodness is wasn't hot !! You also have to lug everything up to the site, you can't park at the site . So if you have a way of dealing with the 🐝 and don't mind hauling your camping gear then you will enjoy this site .
Perfect for a quick get away!
Our one night stay was great! We stayed at site T-16 and it was nice to be a bit away from the main campground but still close to the restroom, lake, and a water spiggot. We brought our stand up paddle board and a couple fishing rods. We were able to catch large mouth bass on small jointed shad rapalas. Hopefully we can stay longer next time so we can hike and try out the restaurant.
Cancellation due to air quality
I understand strict cancellation policy’s but when air quality is considered unhealthy and you have little kids they should work with you on a cancellation and refund or at least credit. This site was unwilling to work with us because they remained open even though air quality conditions were very unhealthy.
Directions wrong and harassment
The directions tell you that as long as you don't have a trailer on your car you can take the google map directions. That isn't true. The bridge they mention has been closed for months. It caused us to drive about another 40ish min. So that is the first thing.
Second, my sister who booked the site emailed specifically in advance about our trip and for further information about the site. Our site said 6 people were allowed. At the end of our last day an older man with a white beard came up to tell us we had too many tents and cars. There was no information about that in the listing or given to us when we asked about it. The man didn't apologize for the lack of information and claimed we could only have two tents, again that wasn't told to us in advance at all. We were social distancing and had separate tents for couples.
That was already rude and irritating, but then later that night the same old man was in the bathroom when we went to brush our teeth. I didn't see him at first and the door was propped open, so I started to enter the bathroom and asked if anyone was in there. He started yelling at me, so I left the bathroom right away, and said I would wait. He kept yelling after I left and was waiting outside. He said then that he was "tired of dealing with you little bitches." We were a group of queer people and I feel he was discriminating against us, especially considering he used such a derogatory and sexist term. I did not feel safe around that man, my partner was with me and witnessed the whole thing. Later when we needed to drop off our garbage and one of the people was running the camp was at the bins, my partner and I were actively stressed and fearful, luckily it was a different person and we were fine, but I will not be going back and I would really reconsider unless the site does something about that man. I wish I had his name but I do not.
Also the site when we got to it was littered with leftover hotdogs and bread. It was ALL OVER the site. Normally I would shrug most of the inconveniences off, but with the harassment we received it all combines to a very uncomfortable experience and place.
Rude host, nice site
The site was very nice and it is quite close to the beach. There was A LOT of abandoned food and garbage at our site however, and I would like to note that the directions given are not accurate. The host says that if you are in a single family vehicle you can take the GPS recommended directions, that guide you through mosquito rd. Once you get 10 minutes away from the campground, the road is closed. We had to backtrack and go the other way which took an extra hour. I told the host about this, to warn them and allow them the opportunity to tell future guests, and the host said I shouldn't have taken mosquito rd in the first place, and that the road had been closed for a while. They knew of the closure and did not tell us, and didn't even apologize. They went so far as to blame me for the rerouting, and spoke in a very condescending manner.
