Hideout shaded by cottonwood trees
Located on Mack’s Boondock Ranch, Harry’s Hideout offers a private, forested retreat to set up for the night. Shaded by the cottonwoods above, one is able to forest bathe out of the hot summer sun, with ample room to set up tents or park a camper van. The provided picnic table and bench offer a nice sitting area, with privacy on all sides provided by the trees.
The property itself operates as a combination organic farm and campground, with other longer-term campers occupying a central area a bit away from Harry’s Hideout. The farm side of the property abounds with livestock, including guinea fowl, ducks, goats, turkeys, a friendly dog, and, perhaps most entertaining, two different types of pigs, one of which being the supremely friendly Kunekune. The Kunekune pigs are simply adorable, and will come right up, expecting to be pet. While the younger ones are cute and cuddly, the adult Kunekunes, considerably bigger, may look more intimidating, but are just as friendly.
Host Joanna is friendly and welcoming, happy to chat about the farm’s history and future plans, as well as lovingly showing off her livestock, which she has clear respect and warmth towards. Aside from the aforementioned picnic tables, other amenities Joanna has provided include a water tap (not for drinking, unless boiled), a communal firepit with seating, a tidy composting toilet outhouse, garbage/recycling disposal, as well as a farm stand featuring products produced on the farm.
The Ranch is located minutes from a variety of attractions including the funky community of Coombs, which offers a number of shops for browsing, and is a great place to grab an ice-cream. Ten minutes away in the opposite direction is Cameron Lake, perfect for a cooling swim or for catching some rays. Other attractions nearby include Little Qualicum Falls and MacMillan Provincial Parks.
Overall, Harry’s Hideout is just that, a great place to hide out for a while, relaxing under the shade of the cottonwoods, enjoying the central location and farm ambiance.
Welcoming, clean, quite, private
We had a wonderful stay at Joanna's property. They were very welcoming to their property, check-in and check-out were super simple. The pit toilet was clean, and comfortable to use. Communication with the host was easy via text message. Harry's Hideout is a lovely shaded, back corner area of the campground. Provides shade when waking up inside a tent, picnic table and bench made for cooking outside easy. Well water available for washing dishes too. We would visit again, and bring back friends. Thank you Joanna and family for having us at your property!
