The hosts were friendly and welcoming. We felt safe and peaceful at Roger's hipcamp. Roger ibteoduced us to all the animals throughout our visit. The alpacas were such nice boys. The goats are also so friendly. Location is great. Clean and private space. Not much leveling required if driving in with a motorhome or truck camper. Road is wide enough and minimal pot holes which made it easy to get to the back yard.

Tucked just outside of Parksville, Alpaca Haven is true to its name, home to a herd of friendly alpacas with equally friendly goats, dog, and hosts. The fully fenced farm is perfect for exploration and running a dog of your own, and features a number of walking trails surrounding the property, just through the main gate.

Arriving at the property, I was met by the host Roger, happy to welcome me onto his beautiful farm. As Roger lead me to the campsite at the back of the property, the alpacas and the llama watched curiously as I drove by. Passing through the gates and reaching the camping area, the care and attention Roger’s put into it is clear. The camping area is level, with large cedars providing shade from the sun, or shelter from the rain. In the middle of the area is a brand-new fire pit, with firewood, an axe, and a camp chair provided. There’s also a hammock to relax in, a table to cook on, and a clean outhouse steps away. Back closer to the house is fresh well water, if needed.

The expansive property provides plenty of areas to explore, with marshland behind the camping area, and fields in front. Given the entire property is fenced and divisible by gates, the farm is perfect for dog owners who want to let their dogs off leash to explore for themselves. Calling the fields their home is the aforementioned livestock, who hang about minding their own business; that is, until grain comes around. Get Roger and his family to get you some feed (see the optional extras when booking), and the goats and alpacas will enthusiastically come right up to eat from a bucket in your hands.

Off the property, just steps away, are a number of additional walking areas, including a trail back to the small airport neighboring the Haven. Perhaps most excitingly, is a tall train trestle, which can be traversed if not height-adverse (do so at your own risk). Below the trestle is French Creek, canopied by beautiful maples, and great for cooling off in the summer, or casting a line (however, see local restrictions, as fishing isn’t permitted all year). A short drive away is a number of shops, as well as both Parksville and Qualicum’s famous beaches.

Overall, the Haven offers great, private tranquillity, with very welcoming hosts and animals. The farm is a perfect basecamp to explore the local area, close to amenities, and great attractions.

Great location, close to everything yet very quiet and tucked away. Ideal if you have dogs as the farm is fully fenced and there is tons of space to walk amongst the big trees and tall grass. Lots of owl and cricket sounds at night. Roger was incredibly hospitable.

We had a great time staying at Alpaca Woodland. It was beautiful and so fun to watch the Alpacas and Goats. The campsite was comfortable, and the hosts were friendly, thoughtful, and offered great amenities - there were chairs and a hammock set up for us when we arrived. Thank you!! If we find ourselves on Vancouver Island again (and I hope we will) we’ll definitely be staying here again.
