It can also be a little windy.

This is a safe and perfect basecamp for the S Rim of the Grand Canyon. Expect quiet nights without light pollution. Rianna and family are friendly, trustworthy, very helpful and will accommodate you graciously.

We absolutely loved visiting Gateway to the Grand Canyon! Rianna was a great host and gave us detailed instructions on how to get to her place, as well as met us outside. Our campsite had amazing views of the mountains and Rianna’s land was peaceful and serene. We had such a quiet and beautiful evening watching the sunset from our tent. We would definitely return for the beauty, solitude, warm hospitality.

The host was so helpful in getting us to the correct spot- she stood outside and was extremely responsive to any of our questions. The land was beautiful- watched the sunset and had Mountain View’s. Also, some very friendly dogs on site :) we were only on the site for a night, came in late and left early, but wish we had more time.

This is a beautiful, remote location with incredible night skies. Rianna greeted me on arrival and pointed out the perfect camping spot. I upgraded and added a dinner. What a welcome feast after a long day hiking at the Canyon. Thank you, David! Wonderful hosts, majestic scenery, and only 30 minutes from the canyon - a perfect Hipcamp.

Spectacular vista and skies. Add a yoga session to your stay! No Goat Yoga offered yet, but these little guys are in training.I really appreciated having a toilet on site. (And a cute, well-mannered dog).

Rianna gave accurate, easy to follow directions to get to the camping area. She met me when I arrived and showed me where I could camp. She is very friendly and easy to talk to.
It is dispersed camping off of a dirt road loop across from where Rianna lives. She keeps an eye on the place to make sure that only people are there who are supposed to be there which made me feel more comfortable as a solo camper.
There is a standard outhouse to use. The area is flat and open and thus can be very windy. Rianna warned me of a wind advisory the two nights I was there and so I chose to car camp over tent camp which worked nicely. And actually the wind didn't end up being too bad! Tent camping might be a little less comfortable due to the scrubby plants which might be lumpy under your tent.
I was only 45 minutes or so away from the south entrance to the Grand Canyon. So I was able to get back and forth easily and spend the day enjoying hiking in the Grand Canyon.
