The vibe at Money's Rest
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
AMAZING! This is a beautiful site! Private and very spacious. Our host, Brandon, was amazing and extremely accommodating! This was our first outing with our gutted, then renovated vintage camper and everything was perfect. I would definitely recommend bringing swimming shoes as the beach is rocky at the shore but past that is smooth sand and great for swimming. Bald eagles were a daily sight, along with osprey and a beautiful white heron. We didn’t fish but saw them jumping daily! Definitely recommend, we are already booking our next stay!
Money's Rest was a great time! However, you should know that the beach as pictured in the listing has since been worn away by erosion and is now more of a drop-off than a beach. It's about a 4-5ft drop down to the water from the campsite and there are a number of fallen trees in the way. You can still access the water by walking through the woods a bit down the coastline, but bring watershoes as it can be rocky.
The site itself was clean and well kept, it had a wonderful view over the bay and there was a fire-pit and table already on set up. The site itself was private and blocked in by trees on each side, and the road it's on leads to a dead end so there was minimal traffic. Brandon was a great host and had offered Kayak rentals at the time of our visit.
I would definitely still recommend Money's Rest for the campsite and views of the Bay, but be warned that the beach isn't what it used to be unfortunately.
Brandon was a great host...friendly and accommodating. Ask Brandon about the beach before you go—it does not exist today as shown in pictures because of erosion. The views and privacy are spectacular but water access is challenging. If you pick the site for view, privacy, quietness and bird life—you will love it! Bald eagles and osprey were a common site. Loved exploring the western shore of Chesapeake!
Sadly due to my own lack of full planning... I arrived during a thunderstorm that didn't seem to want to disperse as predicted.. I pulled into the site figuring I'd make an attempt. The site was as described.. there seemed to be a couple empty tents there already but still there was room... As I was sitting in the car admiring the possibilities despite the rain... Lightning flashed brightly and the explosion was pretty immediate and deafening. I can take a hint and went to a hotel. The rain was persistent and heavy most of the night. Certainly no fault of the site. So my neutral review is only because I ended up not staying. Looked like a nice place!
We arrived to the site after dark and didn't meet with the host during our one night stay but we did message with him prior to our arrival.
The weather was not ideal so we were not able to utilize the fire pit, it was extremely windy. Because of recent rain and storms the beach was not accessible.
The site is secluded enough from the surrounding houses but has an open view to the road, not a big deal to us. The view of the bay was really nice and we were awake early enough to enjoy the sunrise which was wonderful.
The port-o-potty/outhouse could have been cleaner. Our stay was short so we didn't need to use it much.
Overall we thought the site was nice, lots of trees and a nice view.
