High Cliff State Park
See Wisconsin's iconic Lake Winnebago from a state park that lives up to its name.
Camp in the only state-owned recreational area on Lake Winnebago. The name comes from the cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment on the eastern shore of the lake. This translates to panoramic views of a beautiful lake at any time of year.
Hike up to the top of the cliffs with a 0.6-mile hike. A 40-foot observation tower elevates your view. See tree tops framing Lake Winnebago as the sun sets in the distance. Fall foliage makes this area come alive with red, orange, and yellow in early October.
Take in some ancient human history on your way to the top. Thirteen effigy (burial) mounds from nomadic Native American peoples wind their way through the top of the cliff. Four mounds are in the shape of a panther and two are in the shape of a bison. Historians believe these mounds are 1,000 to 1,500 years old.
