The best camping near Tomlinson Run State Park guide

Overview

About

We got 99 problems but a yurt ain’t one. Whether you camp, cabin or yurt your way to a good night’s sleep in these forested hills, you’ll need to be well-rested to take on a day of boating, basketball, swimming, and volleyball. That’s right, hidden in this remarkable patch of wilderness is an all-inclusive recreation center with every activity under the sun. Looking for a little more solitude than the volleyball court can offer? Head to the woodland hills for a walk through the wildflowers, admiring the overhanging rocky cliffs and endless greenery. Wandering through these stunning sandstone and shale cliffs, and neon-green tree canopies, will easily eat up all the hours of your day, but leave time for an evening game of miniature golf to get those competitive juices flowing!

When to go

The ideal time to visit Tomlinson Run State Park is during the spring and fall, when the weather is mild and the natural scenery is at its peak. Summer offers warm days perfect for water activities, though it can be busy. Winters are less crowded but chillier, so pack accordingly.

Know before you go

  • Check the park's website for any alerts on closures or safety advisories before your trip.
  • Ensure you have the necessary permits for fishing or other regulated activities.
  • Accessibility varies across the park, so inquire ahead if you require special accommodations.
  • Facilities include restrooms and picnic areas, but always pack out your trash.
  • For a smooth visit, arrive early, especially during peak season from 8:30am to 5pm.
