Abrams Creek Campground/Retreat

25 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents20 acres · Mt. Storm, WV
Abrams Creek is like camping in a nature preserve, rather than in a commercial campground.  On our campground, there are no generators, loud electronics, or other things that would distract from appreciating the sights and sounds of this pristine natural environment.   And this is always a great place to beat the heat! We have a mountain climate; the peak temperature most days in the summer is in the high 70's or very low 80's, and at night, temperatures go down to about 60.  You'll be breathing cool, clean, fresh mountain air all day long! Hot showers are included, and all sanitary facilities are *sterilized* between guests.  We have taken every measure to safeguard your health! We are located in the mountainous Potomac Highlands region of West Virginia. Our vision is an environmentally conscious, eco-friendly campground developed in harmony with nature. We are not only a business, but also serve as an anchor for others who want to live more simply and close to the earth. The concept of rural revitalization means reinventing rural life so that it is economically sound, intellectually stimulating, and emotionally satisfying. Ask any of our staff if you would like to learn more about this!

Glamping on Timber Ridge

2 sites · Lodging12 acres · Seneca Rocks, WV
Our property was a small family farm for several generations. Our family purchased the property about 18 years ago. Since we are not farmers but love living here, the question became "What would be the best use for the land?" Living in a scenic area and already being in the vacation rental business on some other family property answered the question. We decided to share the beautiful view and seclusion of our area with others. Our goal was to keep the cost of building down so that we could pass on the savings to you so that you would not have to be rich to enjoy our lovely area. This inspired the idea of a glamping cabin. The cabin is actually a repurposed office building that was built about the time this property was purchased by our family. We moved it to the present location and completely remodelled it in 2018 and added the bathroom. For 4 years, guests enjoyed an off-the-grid experience. In 2023, when we began work on the glamping dome (stay tuned--coming soon!!), we decided to add electricity, running water, and a hot tub to the tiny house! We hope you enjoy the cabin (and, soon, the dome) and the stunning view from them as much as we enjoy sharing this beautiful spot with you! Note: The Charming Glamping Cabin is at a totally different property. That property also has a section that used to be farmed. Now a lot of it is forest. We purchased the property around 2000. This cabin was built approx. 10 years later. At that point, the cabin was a tiny economy cabin with a sofa bed. However, it seemed most folks preferred comfort over economy, so in 2020, we added a bump-out to the side of the cabin so there would be room for a queen bed. Guests have loved the improvement. The best camping near Canaan Valley Resort State Park guide

Overview

About

Experience glamping at its finest on the grounds of Canaan Valley Resort State Park, where amenities on top of amenities make this a luxury experience even for those in tents. Laundry, showers, ice, and firewood are available near campsites, and pets can join in on the fun so long as they’re kept on a leash. Up at 3100 feet, fog rolls in across the tree lined mountains each morning in the highest valley east of the Rocky Mountains. This West Virginia gem, the second largest inland wetland in the country, offers sweeping views from the resort. Excellent skiing is available into late spring, as the slopes are in a prime spot to receive sun protection from tree coverage.

Limitless recreation opportunities will keep you busy until nightfall, with a champion-level golf course, Blackwater Falls, and sporting clay range nearby. The resort has a saltwater pool, and hosts a popular annual birding festival that’s worth planning your trip around even if you don’t love birds (you can avoid the crowds by choosing the next weekend). Pack a bottle of Prosecco and some gourmet snacks, because you’ll be camping in style at Canaan!

When to go

The best times to visit Canaan Valley Resort State Park are during the summer months for golf and hiking, and winter for skiing and snowboarding. The park is a year-round destination, but consider avoiding the off-season months when some activities may be limited due to transitional weather conditions.

Know before you go

  • Check weather conditions before your visit, as the park offers different activities depending on the season.
  • Reservations for lodge rooms and cabins can be made online, ensuring your accommodation is secured in advance.
  • For skiers and snowboarders, remember to book your ski pass and rentals ahead of time.
  • Explore the park's events calendar to enhance your visit with scheduled activities and festivities.
  • Accessibility options are available; contact the resort directly for specific needs and inquiries.
