SPOKANE CAMPING In The Forest

4 sites ¡ Tents10 acres ¡ Spokane, WA
The property we named GAEA (the old Greek spelling of Mother Earth) was first seen in a vision. Historically, Deep Creek Canyon was a winter encampment for the Spokane Indians, whose ancestral lands surround us. We feel the healing spirit of the land, in partnership and stewardship. We gather community for Solstice & Equinox celebrations, bringing people together to honor the changing seasons. Our original house was one of the first in the canyon, in the early 1940's.

Hidden Acres Orchards

14 sites ¡ RVs, Tents65 acres ¡ Green Bluff, WA
I'm a 3rd generation farmer, working the same land as my father and grandfather. Hidden Acres Orchards is a 60 acre, u-pick fruit, vegetable, and flower farm. Camp within the luscious fruit tree rows, in the middle of a vibrant pumpkin patch or even in the petting zoo! Animals welcome! IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO KNOW: We are a real working farm, not like a romanticized IG version of a farm. There are tractors running, sprayers making applications, farm animals loudly enjoying life, day customers picking fruit, and farmers about early in the morning. With that being said, we understand that experience may not be to everyone's liking. Be aware that if you do decide to camp here be ready for a real farm adventure! Another little tidbit: to grow food, we try to maximize the amount of sun it receives- SHADE IS VERY LIMITED. ALL CAMPSITES ARE U-PICK, there are no designated spots. Let your creativity shine and choose as dope a spot as you like! If you're scared of driving off a paved road or frightened by the natural world we suggest glamping at another lovely Green Bluff location. Winter camping is available, please note we typically receive a lot of snow. Early spring is the extreme mud season, please be cautious of our soft ground and stick to the roads. July-August can get very dry some years, which means the grass goes dormant and dust starts to fly. MAX STAY IS 14 DAYS.

The best camping near Riverside State Park guide

Overview

About

Western Washington might be more popular, but that doesn’t make the eastern side of the state any less fun. It just makes it a well kept secret, or a hidden gem. Case in point; Riverside State Park. Located a short ways outside Spokane and situated around the river with the same name, Riverside is pretty well rounded as far as state parks go. You can hike, fish, swim, white-water kayak, go off-roading, ride horses, snowshoe, snowmobile and even check pictographs left behind by people who thought this area was cool waaaaaayyyyyy before the first espresso was poured in Seattle. This place is beautiful, no doubt about that. The Spokane River cuts through evergreen forests that occasional thin for open countryside. Birds gather around freshwater marshes while bears and other wildlife roam the hilly terrain. There is no shortage of places to camp, so stay for a while and explore all there is that Riverside has to offer. Although, come to think of it, that might take a while.

Notable campgrounds

  • Bowl and Pitcher: Set along the Spokane River, this campground is known for its iconic swinging bridge and towering pines.
  • Nine Mile Recreation Area: A day-use area with docks and a boat launch, perfect for water activities and summer fun.
  • Lake Spokane Campground: Offers a serene camping experience with fishing, swimming, and boating on the western end of the lake.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Book early, especially for peak season, to ensure you secure a spot at this popular park.
  • Consider mid-week stays for better availability and a quieter camping experience.
  • Keep an eye on cancellations to snag a last-minute reservation.
  • Explore nearby camping options if Riverside State Park is fully booked.

When to go

The best time to visit Riverside State Park is during the summer months when the weather is warm and all facilities are fully operational. Winter offers a tranquil beauty, with opportunities for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, but be prepared for colder temperatures and limited access.

Know before you go

  • Check for any burn bans or alerts before planning your visit to ensure a safe trip.
  • Remember to purchase a Discover Pass for park access; annual and one-day passes are available.
  • Be aware of park hours, which vary from summer (6:30am to dusk) to winter (8am to dusk).
  • Keep dogs on a leash and only light fires in designated areas to protect the park's natural environment.
  • Accessible facilities are available, ensuring an enjoyable visit for all guests.
