Wilderness Path

5 sites ¡ RVs, Tents1 acre ¡ Ashford, WA
Our rental property was once a mini Rail Road with full size locomotive's, train cars, pumper cars and more. My dad & grandpa layed all the tracks & put together the buildings in the 1970's. Once done my grandma sold tickets to the tourist and my grandpa ran the engine around the 7 acre oval track pulling a train car full of happy tourist through the woods over the train bridge and past the big water tower back to their vehicles so they could finish their journies with a drive to Mt. Rainier. There is a lot of history on this property for our family and we hope by sharing it with others they will be able to experience some fun here as well.

Rainier's Roadside RV

2 sites ¡ RVs1 acre ¡ Ashford, WA
Welcome to Rainier Roadside RV, the ideal base camp for visiting Mt. Rainier! The closest RV site to Rainier's Nisqually entrance and a two minute drive to the gate! Beat the morning rush and be first into the park. Site amenities include a covered pavilion for afternoon picnics, a central fire pit area, electrical connections, and trash bin. This desirable location is both close to the entrance but also the road. During the busy season the line for the Nisqually entrance can back up over three miles long. This campsite is close to the park and less than a mile to the gate. This mean a couple things: You can be the first in line in the mornings, but traffic also backs up past the campsite starting around 8 am (see picture of road proximity from Google Earth for reference). The road traffic dies down in the evenings, as visitors tend to leave the park before dark. When you're not in the park check out the local sites including The Elbe Outdoor Shooting Range, Nisqually River (387th Ave Ct E), Ice cream at Elbe Junction or the Wildberry Restaurant across the street, just a stroll away! I appreciate feedback and reviews, I'm always trying to make the experience better!

Private RV parking near Mt Rainier

1 site ¡ RV1 acre ¡ Packwood, WA
You've found the best RV parking in Packwood, Washington at the base of Mt Rainier. Enjoy nearly an acre of quiet, old growth, tranquil, forest to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Leave behind the congested RV park and experience a unique and tranquil oasis of natural beauty. Pick between two RV parking spots, with septic, 30 amp electric and water. Enjoy your own fire pit, a covered picnic shelter with lighting, horseshoe pits and a covered porch with a swing. Access the property with a U-shaped, pull-through drive, or simply back in/out. The property is located at the dead end of a road with a large, paved cul de sac for easy turning . You'll be centrally located to the best of what the Pacific Northwest has to offer: Mt. Rainier National Park (12 miles to the Stevens Canyon entrance and 28 miles to the Nisqually entrance in the summer....longer in the winter), White Pass (including the ski resort and the Pacific Crest Trail), the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, the Cowlitz River, Packwood Lake, and endless hiking trails. Looking for more? You're also not far from Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Adams. While you feel like you've stepped away from it all, you're still just a few miles away from the amenities of Packwood, including shopping, restaurants, gas, etc. Fall asleep to the soft sounds of nearby Butter Creek, and wake up to fresh forest air. Spend your days exploring what makes the Pacific Northwest so amazing, and relax at night gathering around the large fire pit or enjoying time together under the covered picnic shelter. A second RV is allowed for an additional fee (contact owner), though electrical service is only available for one RV (septic and water available for two). One tent is allowed provided it is accompanied by a fully contained RV with a bathroom. The maximum occupancy is 6 persons regardless of the number of RV's or if a tent is used. Some guess have reported that using slide outs leaves little to no room to walk past the slide outs without having to walk off the driveway; if your vehicle has slide outs this may not be an ideal location for your vacation. (note: there is a small residence on the property, which will be vacant during your stay; you are free to use the covered porch area and the porch swing).

The best camping near Mount Rainier National Park guide

Overview

About

Have you ever wanted to walk on a glacier covering an active volcano? You're in luck, this is most glaciated peak in the lower 48 states.

Maybe you'll want to explore wildflowers in the spring or hike to a waterfall. Cyclists can challenge themselves with rides that gain almost 4,000 feet in elevation.

Prefer to hike? You've got 260 miles of trails (all levels) to choose from—so get started! If you want to actually climb the mountain (14,410 feet!), you'll need a permit plus ice-climbing gear. Fishing isn't great here, so leave the poles at home—But bring your kayak or canoe to explore Mowich Lake.

The historic National Park Inn is open year-round, and Paradise Inn accepts guests spring through fall. You say you'd rather camp? (We would, too!) Hook up your RV at 3 separate campgrounds, or hike into the primitive tent campsites at Mowich Lake Campground.

When to go

The best time to visit Mount Rainier National Park is during the summer months when the weather is mild and the roads are clear. However, the park's beauty transforms with each season, offering unique experiences year-round. Winter visits can be magical, but come prepared for road closures and heavy snowfall.

Know before you go

  • Always check the current road status and weather conditions before planning your visit to ensure accessibility.
  • Carry tire chains in your vehicle from November 1 to May 1, as they are mandatory within the park during this period.
  • Visitor centers and facilities have varying operating hours; confirm these times to make the most of your trip.
  • Accessibility is a priority at Mount Rainier; learn about the park's efforts to accommodate all visitors.
  • For your safety, familiarize yourself with winter hazards such as avalanches if you're visiting in the colder months.
