Kanaskat-Palmer is a relatively small state park that lies on a low, forested plateau about an hour’s drive southwest from Seattle. Two miles of the fast-flowing Green River run through the park, making it one of Washington’s premiere spots for white water rafting and kayaking. We aren’t talking lazy river rafting, but literal, frothing, white water rapids. The rafting here is expert level only, so don’t just plop your inner tube in the water and expect to bob down current. It would be more akin to being bucked by a bronco. For less extreme visitors, Kanaskat-Palmer Park offers no shortage of beautiful areas to picnic, take a bike ride, or go for a hike. If you plan to stay the night, there is plenty of tent and RV camping. You can even book a stay in a yurt! If you don’t know what a yurt is, look it up. They’re pretty sweet, just like Kanaskat-Palmer State Park.
