Family-friendly
Recent Hipcampers say this Hipcamp is great for families and kids.
Mostly private three acres of open flat field. Cedar and pine trees, some garden, flowerbeds. Bats at dusk. Lots of stars at night. Lots of birds during summer. It's between Port Gamble Heritage Park and the Hood Canal, just off of Highway 3.This yurt is located on a unique somewhat  secluded three acre parcel of land, shared by  charming handcrafted tiny houses and surrounded by pine trees. The yurt itself is an authentic handmade all organic  "groovy"  Mongolian yurt,  20 feet in diameter outfitted with a wood stove and a comfortable queen size bed with a comfortable mattress.  The high ceiling, natural materials, and round floor plan makes staying here feel a little magical. During the day, pull the canvas top open and enjoy the skylight and open air.  Wildlife includes on the daily many types of rare and common birds, squirrels, rabbits, bats, owls, and the occasional deer. Excellent stargazing on a clear night!  With a recent Bobcat sighting. You will have access to a primitive  hot outdoor shower, a shared fully plumbed "outhouse",  an outdoor fire pit with chairs, and a gas grill in a covered outdoor DIY kitchen with running water. Note about shared amenities: The shower is a short walk down a hill and attached to another building. The outhouse bathroom , " toilet and sink"  is several yards away from the yurt and while being fully functional, is also not completely finished on the outside.  There is also  spots to get out of the weather. The outdoor kitchen is also in various stages of development. Use at your own risk. There are several cast iron skillets, some random plates, a kettle for boiling water, running water hooked up to a vintage sink.  Bring your own drinking water, and things to throw in the refrigerator.  There is most everything you might need.  Up to six guests can stay in this yurt (It's quite spacious). In addition to the queen bed there is a spare mattress (beneath the bed) a cot, and a sleeping bag. A few minutes drive away are gorgeous rocky beaches on the hood canal, Port gamble historical district with restaurants and shopping,  hiking,  biking, and kayaking at Port Gamble Heritage park, scenic drives (hood canal floating bridge for example).  Port Gamble Heritage Park is actually  accessible  by 10 min. walk or bike. A bit further out you can visit the amazing Chimucum farmer's market (20 minutes north), or check out the stunning Port Townsend (35 minutes northwest). This spot is also on the way to  the Olympic National Park,  and ocean beaches.

Hood Canal " Groovy" Yurt
Easy beginner-level camping fun!
Charming and delightful accommodations, very generously and carefully stocked for the casual getaway for the weekend. My kids had the time of their lives and I got to introduce them to camping in a very gentle and easy way - now they’re demanding more! This place was a fantastic start for kids who have never been camping or for grownups who ain’t into roughing it. Loved loved loved this yurt!

What a wonderful stay! My cousin and I had enjoyed a relaxing cool fall evening in the yurt. The wood stove gets things toasty!! We appreciate the cozy bathroom, kitchen, and helpful Janine. Thanks!

Excellent stay
The yurt was so cozy and the little outhouse bathroom was very clean, not an inconvenience at all. There is a door on the yurt now (description made it sound like it was a tent flap). The only miscommunication was that when we got to the yurt later than expected (long day of hiking led to getting food and kept our schedule behind) there was a chain across the drive that said private property and I was hesitant about it. Quick response from Curt though and we knew we were in the right spot and it was okay to enter. Very quiet and private. Definitely on the "will use again" list! Check out The Butcher and the Baker before you leave the area. Very well worth it!

Easy Camping
We stayed two nights in the middle of a heat wave! The location feels very secluded but is right off the main drag and 15 min away from the Poulsbo Marina which is filled with shops, food, and when we were there on a Wednesday afternoon live music. The property itself is filled with interesting tiny houses and buildings. The yurt is at the top with a large cut lawn and fire pit. The bathroom functions as a normal bathroom, and the little outdoor kitchen had everything needed to cook our small meals. The yurt itself is large and clean. The host Curt had filled it with games, extra supplies (in case you forget anything), and a big comfortable bed with nice linens . We utilized the fans as our trips temp occasionally hit the triple digits, but there is also a wood stove, and a portable heater. There is not much Curt hasn’t thought of when it comes to accommodations. Overall we loved the DIY eclectic vibe of the whole place, we had a lovely trip and will be back soon!
