Tall, snow peaked volcanoes, lush green rainforests, impressive geologic features and a vibrant outdoors culture make Washington the embodiment of camping culture in the Pacific Northwest. Head to the Olympic Peninsula, where pulsing, wooded trails lead to wide, sandy beaches that are perfect for a night of beach camping under the stars. Grab a Rainier beer with the locals (if you so choose!) and plan your trip into the Cascades, where top-notch exploration of the national forest is your best bet for no-frills lodging in this mountain lovers' paradise. Tipi and yurt camping opportunities abound throughout the state, and Washington's moderate climate makes outdoor adventure a year-round activity, even in the snowy mountains. Don't let Seattle's cool factor fool you: the camping in eastern Washington is not to be missed. Twisting rivers, tall waterfalls and open meadows make for the perfect quiet getaway – especially if you're looking to stay dry.

The Puget Sound is the second largest estuary in the United States. Its numerous glacier-carved channels and branches are fed by freshwater from over 10,000 rivers and streams that flow down from the Olympic and Cascade Mountains.
We put our tent on the hill, and parked the car just below in their driveway
A blackberry laden river a short walk away.
Old growth forest behind us!

We spent so much time at this private sandy beach. Just a short path from Site 2!
If you pitch your tent down on the landing you can see the sunset looking north over a mellow eddy in the river.
View of Site 2 from the far side of the site. Both sites are gorgeous and huge - you honestly can't lose at The Landing!
The Landing is our top choice for campgrounds in Western Washington, and we love both sites!
The site had so much open space and we had 16 acres all to our selves!

The rainy Olympic Peninsula contains the only rainforest in the continuous United States. The Hoh Rainforest can be found in the Olympic National Park.
The whole space was set up perfectly!
The views are beautiful!
There are great little beaches near the ferry terminal! Great for stretching your legs before the boat ride!
The tent has a queen size bed and linens are provided! We still brought sleeping bags, as it was a little chilly, but it was nice and homey!

Washington State is 52 percent forest. Grove of the Patriarchs trail near Mount Rainier is the perfect place to see some of the state’s oldest trees: Several are over a thousand years old and more than 25 feet in circumference.
