Creature comforts
Enjoy the comforts of home—including flush toilets, showers, and a kitchen.
A yurt with a hot tub, set on a sustainable livestock farm with views of Betws Mountain and the Brecon Beacons.

It's easy to see why host, Sarah, fell in love with Gilfach Gower Farm. There's the pond, the wildflower meadow, and the grand views north to the mountains of the Brecon Beacons. Plus there's the romantic fact the farm has stood here since the 1600s. Not only is it a magnificent place to run a sustainable livestock farm—think Highland cattle, rare breed pigs, pygmy goats, and chickens—but it also creates an epic backdrop for a glamping site. Turn up, kick back, and enjoy nights in one of the most beautiful yurts in South Wales.

Gilfach Gower Farm is glamping at its finest. The hand-painted yurt has everything you need for a rejuvenating break, from an opulent king-size double bed to your own private hot tub, all set in a glorious 12 acres. All the finer details are covered. There are luxury toiletries, towels, blankets, and bedding, seasoned wood for the wood-burning stove and natural firelighters to get things started. Access to your own private shower room and fully-equipped kitchen is also just a short stroll away.

While this is a romantic spot for couples, it also works well for families and groups of four guests, with two single beds also provided. And kids do love it here. Sarah can take you around to meet the animals and point you in the direction of the nearest family attractions. She can also help arrange on-site activities for couples and friends. Clear your mind in a private on-site yoga session, or put on your walking boots for trails along stunning scenery. Embark on the Amman Valley river walk, a lengthy and picturesque route between the coal-mining town of Ammanford and the village of Glanamman, or go on an adventure to Penlle’r Castell—the highest point in Swansea with even more spectacular views.

A stay at Gilfach Gower is an escape to nature, tranquillity and a sustainable way of farming life. We offer unique accommodation and high end luxury in a completely private and secluded setting, whilst being sympathetic to the environment. The yurt sits in its own wildflower meadow, enclosed by hedgerows and trees to give complete privacy and seclusion during your stay. Celebrating traditional crafts, our yurt was handmade & hand-painted in Mongolia. The large yurt can comfortably sleep four; the king size bed providing spacious luxury for two, plus there are two extra single beds. When not in use, one is hidden away and the other serves as a relaxing day bed. Eclectic upcycled furniture give you total comfort and practicality. The yurt is fully insulated and at its heart is the wood burning stove... using our own seasoned wood it will have you tingling with warmth, even on a cold night. Outside the yurt is a dining area with kettle bbq and beautiful hand made fire pit for toasting marshmallows. And tucked away behind the yurt is our new hard hot tub which comfortably sits four, with 12 jets providing the ultimate massage experience. It's the perfect place to relax and gaze at the stars on a clear evening. The hot tub can be used whenever takes your fancy, day or night! A short walk from the yurt is the private fully accessible shower room and fully equipped kitchen, with everything you'll need for your stay. Parking is provided immediately adjacent to the kitchen. Luxurious bedding, blankets, towels and toiletries are provided. All you have to bring is a good book, some comfy boots and your bathers! It is stunningly peaceful and quiet... yet only 15 mins from the M4 motorway and 5 mins from Ammanford town centre. Parking is provided close to the accommodation and we offer free pick ups from the local train and bus stations. Ammanford is a coal mining town full of heritage and charm. The town has an excellent selection of restaurants, coffee shops, bars & pubs. The beautiful market town of Llandeilo is only 15 mins away, packed with visitor attractions and foodie delights. From the yurt you can see the Brecon Beacons. Local nature reserves, castles and the amazing beaches & coastline of Swansea Bay and the Gower are only a short drive away. This is a working farm, so why not join Sarah for a tour during your stay and meet all the animals - Highland cows (with some very cute calves), sheep (and little lambs in spring), pygmy goats, chickens and sometimes pigs (depending on the time of year).  Our delicious farm produce is available to purchase. Why not try one of our pre-order Breakfast or BBQ boxes. Or take some produce home with you! We can arrange a private yoga lesson with an experienced instructor from £35 to help you unwind and relax. If you are a party bigger than four and some of you don't mind camping, we have an area in the same field as the yurt that can fit a tent. Only available for the same party staying in the yurt. Price depends on number of extra guests. Just drop me a message for more info. Please note the yurt is privately located at the top of a sloping field and is a short walk to the shower room, kitchen and parking area. Appropriate footwear is essential. Children are welcome, but as this is a working farm, they must be supervised at all times.

Luxury Yurt in Wildflower Meadow
Lovely weekend break
The Yurt is situated all by itself in a small meadow, so completely private. The kitchen and toilet/shower are in a separate block about 85 metres away, both were spotlessly clean. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you need to prepare a meal and there was plenty of hot water for showers. The would burning stove in the Yurt kept it really warm and comfortable even on a frosty February morning and the hot tub was a lovely bonus. Sarah was really friendly and made sure we had everything we needed, including keeping us topped up with firewood. If I was looking for negatives I would suggest that some heating in the shower room would have been nice and the kitchen was a bit of a walk away, especially if it rains as there are no cooking facilities at the Yurt. Don't let either thing put you off though, I am only being picky, we had a brilliant two night stay and only wished we could have stayed longer.

From the host
In the foothills of Betws Mountain, in the heart of rural Carmarthenshire, sits our traditional 12 acre farm. We have a small fold of pedigree Highland cattle, sheep, pygmy goats, Saddleback pigs and chickens. Guests can enjoy a tour of the farm, say hello to the animals and enjoy the rolling hills, streams and lake. The Brecon Beacons, local nature reserves, castles and the amazing beaches and coastline of Swansea Bay and the Gower are only a short drive away. Our area is renowned for its cycling routes; mountain biking in the Brechfa Forest; lots of walks and hikes; and activities and experiences to fill every moment of your day.
Food and drink

Farm produce is available to purchase on site from Sarah—best to order in advance; prre-order the barbecue, picnic, or breakfast box for tasty treats. Elsewhere, there are a good number of places to eat and drink in the nearby town of Ammanford, only a five-minute drive away. The Cottage Inn is a popular local serving traditional pub grub, with a beer garden out back and regular events such as quiz nights and karaoke indoors. Just a little further down the road from the pub is The Poison Apple, a quirky bar specialising in gin and rum sourced both locally and internationally. Delicious Chinese food is served at the Royal Kitchen, located just outside of Ammanford and along the River Amman. It's great value for money but be sure to book a seat in advance (01269592181).

Nearby attractions

You can get to the Amman Valley river walk in a five-minute drive, a lovely linear walking trail along the River Amman. The route will take you from Ammanford, alongside the village of Glanaman, and concludes in Brynamman, giving you a full tour of the local area. Llandeilo is a 20-minute drive away, an attractive market town positioned next to the Brecon Beacons. A quaint hub of independent shops, there are plenty of unique treasures to find among the town's charming pastel buildings. If you're in the mood for some history, take a 20-minute drive to the ruinous and iconic Carreg Cennen Castle, positioned on a limestone cliff edge above the River Cennen with breathtaking views across the countryside.
