Over Jordan Farm was orginally part of an 847 acre tract of land that the Dearing family assembled in the early 19th Century. The original tract lay at the headwaters of he Rappahannock River and included Colonel's Preston Thornton's Peaked Mountain Tract, now fondly referred to as the "Peak". The Dearing Family built a home known as Caledonia Farm, on a portion of the land just south of what is now Over Jordan Farm. During the late 1800's into the 1930's Dearing family siblings battled in court over the land with Herbert and Lucie Barksdale eventually buying a portion of the land in 1945 and selling it to Bill and Linda Dietel in 1980. The Dietels named the land Over Jordan Farm, as it requires crossing over the Jordan River and subsequently built the Mere and Dower (now Riversong) houses. An 18th Century log cabin found on the land was restored and welcomes visitors to the farm. Linda Dietel shepherded a flock of Polypay sheep for over 20 years and in 2012 son-in-law, Michael Sands, and daughter, Betsy Dietel, established Bean Hollow Grassfed.
