Located just minutes from Shenandoah National Park, we offer intimate nature-inspired cottages and camping on our 120-acre working farm. Enjoy an evening under the stars with fireflies and a campfire after a long day hike, fly fishing on one of our beautiful trout steams or touring the local vineyards and breweries. We currently offer one cottage and a few campsites for our guests. Many of our spots require walking away from your vehicle, short distances. We have three drive-in sites that will accommodate one or two vehicles. We do not allow RVs or trailers due to our narrow mountain driveway. Camper vans are welcome! Our farm store includes Animal Welfare Approved products such as Eggs, Chicken, Beef, Pork, Lamb and Dairy from the farm as well as produce, jams and mushrooms and other items from our local community. We offer camping essentials, local art, bike rentals, farm experiences and tours. The property has miles of trails along mountain spring-fed streams, a small pond and access to three private acres on the Robinson River, a stocked Trout stream, just 2 miles down the road. Our property is centrally located to White Oak Canyon and Old Rag Mountain trailheads in the Shenandoah National Park as well as many vineyards and breweries. Please check in with us about current rentals and camp availability. We are in the process of restoring an 1850s Chestnut log cabin, which will be available for our guests to rent as well as other cottages.

Labyrinth, Trails and Solitude

11 sites ¡ RVs, Tents116 acres ¡ Orange , VA
116 acres of hills and dells. Miles of hiking trails marked and well maintained. A small pond and beautiful labyrinth. Over 50 acres of deep wilderness woods. General Lee and his troops once camped here. But they cleaned up pretty good, so all you can really see is the old spring and wagon road. This is a working herb and small fruit farm. We have been experimenting with all kinds of exotic herbs and trees. Some make it, many don't. We sell dried herb teas. In addition we have 5 different kinds of bamboo. We use the bamboo for so many things. In the 5 people per site we are considering adults, not children... bring a whole crew of kids (try to have enough supervision - if there is such a concept!) The kids have such a great time out here... it is amazing. They love the labyrinth! It seems like we made this place for the kids in ourselves and when actual kids see it they go wild. The last bunch were running and yelping with their picked flowers all round and round in the labyrinth for hours! Also, if you want peace and quiet - and we have children booked - we will put you out at one beautiful remote campsites away from all the kids running and singing.

Peace of Earth Farmstead

5 sites ¡ Tents10 acres ¡ Woodford, VA
Our farm is host to wild critters as well as our farm animals. There will always be someone to pet, feed or observe during your stay! Remnants of an old stone mill and 1920's vehicle are a 15-20 minute walk away from camp, right on a creek with a rock scramble and swimming hole! After a good rain, it's common to find old glass bottles, and more artifacts from days gone by. We started on this land in 2019 and have been steadily working to create a cooperative farmstead and nature school to share with our community as well as travelers and explorers. Our space is super kid friendly! Enjoy the animals, treehouse and trails :)

The best camping near Lake Anna State Park guide

Overview

About

Paddles dip into the glass-still water, small ripples shattering the once mirror-like images of the adjacent shoreline into a kaleidoscope of mosaics. “Oh look, everyone,” exclaims the leading paddelist, reassuring everyone of her unwavering need for attention. “Look at the fish below! Aren’t they gorgeous?” For the lagging kayakers, her words come across as hollow interjections. After All, her aggressive strokes had made quick work of the wary fish, now hidden beneath the algae enveloped rocks below.

Words to the wise: don’t be the obnoxious kayaker. Lake Anna State Park is inundated by the area’s namesake lake and, as one could imagine, is a popular hydrophilic outlet for the amphibious camper. Canoe and kayak launching sights are plentiful, nestled alongside the healthy population of game fish that stock the fauna heavy lake. And, for those of us who aren’t too keen on getting our feet wet, be sure to explore the nearly fifteen-miles of hiking trails that comb the well manicured shoreline—but do so without making a ruckus.

Notable campgrounds

  • Cabins: Cozy retreats with rustic furniture, fireplaces, and scenic lake views, perfect for a family getaway.
  • Lodges: Spacious 6-bedroom lodges with modern amenities, ideal for larger groups seeking comfort amid nature.
  • Yurts: A unique blend of tent and cabin, these yurts offer a charming and secluded camping experience.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Book early, especially for peak season stays, to ensure your spot in this popular park.
  • Consider mid-week visits for better availability and a quieter experience.
  • Keep an eye on cancellation policies for last-minute openings.
  • Explore nearby camping options for alternative accommodations if the park is full.

When to go

The best time to visit Lake Anna State Park is during the spring and fall when the weather is mild and the natural beauty is at its peak. Summer offers warm swimming conditions but expect larger crowds. Winters are quieter but with limited services.

Know before you go

  • Check the park's capacity before visiting, especially on weekends, as it may close due to reaching limits.
  • Remember to bring your own linens and towels when staying in cabins or lodges.
  • Be aware of unguarded swimming areas and swim at your own risk.
  • Accessibility is a priority, with features like ADA-accessible cabins and fishing ponds.
  • Alcohol is permitted only in private areas or with a permit from the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.
