About the property
Located on a 66-acre plot just five miles from the Shenandoah River, our property offers amazing access to hiking and the outdoors while also keeping civilization within striking distance. Bear Chase Brewery is just a half mile walk across the street, and we are 15 miles from Purcellville.
The land and lodge used to be the summer home of a trained opera singer, whose singing could be heard throughout the mountain.
Your Host lives onsite in the stone house that also acts as a hostel for hikers on the Appalachian Trail. Built in the 1930's all from locally sourced hand-hammered stone, the house is open every night from 5pm - 9pm.
Note that we offer several campsites relatively close to each other, so you should expect to see and hear other campers on the property during your stay.
About the listing
Pitch your tent in a forested area just a short walk up from where you’ll park your car. Enjoy unbeatable proximity to hiking and panoramic views while still having basic amenities that ensure a comfortable stay.
You’ll have access to a composting pit toilet, and can access potable water from the tap in the lodge. That’s also where you can access hot showers. As noted above, we host Appalachian Trail thru hikers on the property, so you may see them hanging around or sleeping in the bunkhouse near the shared facilities. so please be respectful of hours when you come in for a shower.

For meals, we have picnic tables, and you are encouraged to cook over the fire pits that accompany each site. Please practice Leave No Trace practices during your stay, as the property has raccoons and other critters who will be drawn to any food scraps that are left behind.
Pets are allowed! Please keep them on leash during your stay.
Trash can be disposed of in dumpster up the hill

From the flat land at the bottom to the top of the mountain, this is a place where you can find a spot to sit and think, draw, paint, nap, or identify over 30 medicinal plants in their natural habitats (absolutely NO harvesting of medicinals or wildflowers!). Listen to the many birds, spot the wildflowers.
Some areas are accessible by wheelchair, while others are not, but all areas offer something to sustain your spirit.
If you feel the need to explore the area, you are within walking distance of NotaViva Farm Brewery and Winery, 15 dirt road minutes from the new Sweet Run State Park one direction and Breaux Vineyard in the other direction. The Appalachian Trail is just over the top of the mountain and Harpers Ferry National Park is down the road and over the Shenandoah River.
We might be a teeny bit biased, but we think this is area of northwest Loudoun County, VA is one of the loveliest places in the world.

Nestled in Western Loudoun Wine Country is a unique 4-acre glamping site featuring a 33-foot-diameter geodesic dome greenhouse, a rustic tiny home cabin with a viking flair, and a fire pit campsite area for a few tents. Secret DC promoted Lovettsville as the most “laid-back” town in America in an October 2025 article.
Steven Bryant loves gardening and caring for plants and is currently laying the groundwork for a small native nursery. Rebecca Bryant is a licensed massage therapist and uses the dome as her session space in addition to overnight accommodations.

Both the Geodesic Dome and the Tiny Home Cabin have electricity. There is no plumbing in either structure.
• The vibe is "working farm," with a barn, gardens, and pets. You may see tractors, the resident cat and dogs, and various projects usually centered around sustainability improvements. The neighbors are more or less out of sight, and all camp spots are out of sight of the public road. But the parking area is shared and you may encounter the friendly folks who live here.

I loved the campsite. I did have the entire campground to myself, but I could see how it might feel like close-quarters if other sites had been occupied. A couple of the sites seemed to be right on top of each other. But having the place to myself, I don’t have direct experience with that. I loved how close it was to Bear Rock Overlook, just a quick 5-10 minute walk. I also loved being right on the Appalachian Trail so I could hike a section of it and then return to camp at night.
Having the place to myself also meant I was able to find refuge under a large stone and wood shelter right in the campground during a particularly stormy day.
The only real drawbacks were how far away the water tap was (about a 10-minute round trip all the way up the hill to the back of the lodge and back down) and the noise coming from traffic in the driveway (because it’s gravel, every car on it makes a fair amount of noise and there’s a lot of in and out traffic, particularly right around dusk).

We loved our time at Bears Den! Campsite was clean and quiet. A beautiful sunset spot a short walk from the site. Make sure you go to Bear Chase Brewery after your stay!
The lodge with bathrooms and potable water was only open 5pm-9pm otherwise the outhouse is your only option.

Excellent experience! What a perfect concept Shannon and Steven have at their beautiful winery/brewery. You could not ask for better more attentive service anywhere both Stephen and Shannon were gracious host. They provided us with excellent dry wood and farm fresh eggs fresh from their hens on the property. They’re marvelous employee. Jordan is super wonderful and very attentive to all of the patrons at their way cool tap room overall a wonderful experience and highly recommended. I’ve been telling all of my friends and family about it since our last camping trip there.

Cozy little campground next to some great trails and convenient parking. The four sites are close together so you can be as social (or not) with your neighbors as you'd like. The first bucket of firewood is free and lasts 2-3 hours with a standard fire - extra buckets are 9 dollars each.

Beautiful Campground site, it is a rustic site but all amenities (except electricity) are available near the hostel area which is a short walk. The trails were beautiful and so was the nearby overlook. Host was very responsive and helpful as well - highly recommended overall!

Stephen & Shannon were amazing hosts! Very warm and welcoming. They shared a lot of knowledge with the local area for food suggestions. Their land is BEAUTIFUL. We preferred their beer to all other breweries we tried in the area. Their wine was wonderful too. Bluegrass Friday night was a fun feature! We'll definitely be back!

I think I stayed at site 2 because in the site location field of my reservation it said "site". I didnt use the shower or water amenities available, but I could have and knowing that was comforting. The hiking around that area is amazing!!! I want to bring my family back and again enjoy the beautiful scenery under a thick canopy of trees.

Such a fun campsite. We were the only ones there and we had an amazing time. Had a great fire and great night sleep listening to the wind and trees. Beautiful view from the lookout at sunset. We plan on returning as soon as possible.
