Cornhole boards, firewood and load-in assistance available upon request for a small fee. Nearby attractions include fishing, hiking, swimming, wineries, biking, orchards, Skyline Drive, and GW national forest. The oral history of Coal Mine Hollow has it that a moonshine still once graced the banks of Camp Cedar Creek. It was run by a recluse, who was always on the move from the Revenuers. A revenuer went missing along Cedar Creek one moonlit night, never to be seen again. The bearded recluse who ran the still, owned two mules, and an old car frame without a motor. Those mules would pull him through the hollow, and up into the mountains, where the revenuers never found him. Some say on a cold, moonlit night, they’ve seen his two old mules, pulling an old car frame past Camp Cedar Creek.

Berryville Berries

6 sites ¡ RVs, Tents65 acres ¡ Boyce, VA
We bought this little slice of heaven a little over a year ago. We decided to offer a small section of the land so folks could camp out by the creek and have a peaceful alternative to the cramped RV resorts that are nearby. We'll be growing pumpkins in summer/fall and we're starting the berry patches as well, but right now the produce isn't ready - so you'll have to enjoy the quaint Opequon Creek, quiet sites, and nearby tourist attractions. Ideal visitors will be self-contained units for short stays or just through-traveling. All sites are for dry camping so please be self-contained. We are just now starting this project and have decided to dive in a little earlier due to interested campers. Please be patient as we get this up and running. Email berryvilleberries@gmail.com with any questions. Hope to see you soon! Drive directly to your own private site near the quaint Opequon Creek. Picnic tables and fire rings are available at some of the spots (just ask if you need one, but some folks just bring their own) . You may use our clean porta-potties and trash cans as well. Please help us keep this creek-side berry and pumpkin farm clean and serene for all visitors. We're near I81, Rt 7, I66 and Rt 50/17, grocery stores, Civil War battlefields and so much. The creek is a rocky bottom watershed that flows into the Potomac River. We are just now opening this ground to campers, so please be patient while we work through the learning curve and do let us know if we can do anything for you. This is a DIY camp, not a "bougey" RV resort. You'll need to be self-sufficient. This place is ideal for through-travelers and folks staying for 1 to 3 days, but longer visits are allowed. Just keep in mind that this is simply a working farm, so resort-style campground activities do not exist here. Rather what you will find is serenity and easy access to fun places to visit, especially Civil War tourism and visits to DC and Harpers Ferry. **Please also note that dogs MUST BE LEASHED 100% of the time. If your pet is off leash even one time, you will be asked to leave with no refund - no exceptions.** Quiet, non-barking dogs are allowed to visit (sorry, just has to be said).

The best camping near Cedar Creek & Belle Grove National Historical Park guide

Overview

About

Take a journey back to the Civil War with a trip to the Shenandoah Valley. 3,700 acres of land will carry you across Civil War battlefields and past plantations, wheat fields, and historic homes. The region's history is full of battle and strife. From the first clashes between European and Indigenous communities to the enslaved plantation workers, to the bloody battles of the Civil War. Hiking, history, and the vibrant greenery of the Shenandoah Valley collide at Cedar Creek.

Take a walk down the Morning Attack Trails for an active lesson in battle history. Educational markings and stone monuments turn these trails into a lesson in American history. Follow a Ranger through the park for a deep dive into the history of Shenandoah Valley and the Battle of Cedar Creek. If you're looking to cover more land and history, download the Civil War Trust's self-guided auto tour and explore the region by car.

The nearby Belle Grove Plantation Manor House was built in 1797 and is open to the public year round. Step inside the historic structure for a look into the lives of Major Isaac Hite and his wife Nelly Madison Hite. Teaching gardens, wheat fields, and an annual "Of Ale and History" Beer Fest make for year-round festivities.

This historic park's proximity to the Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River, and protected forests make it an ideal excursion. Scenic campgrounds and local lodgings abound, from cozy cabins and cottages to public campgrounds. A little dose of history is the perfect end to a weekend outdoors.
