Mt Martha Bushland Hideaway

3 sites · RVs, Tents5 acres · Mount Martha, VIC
This property was originally part of a large farmland, divided into 5 acre lots. When we purchased in 1997, there wasn't a single tree on the place. Over the years, we have revegetated the property with native and indigenous bushland, created a wetland that attracts many native animals including birds, lizards, possums and frogs to name a few. Enjoy a hidden country escape on our 5 acre property on the Mornington Peninsula. Property features a wetland with jetty, roaming peacocks, chickens and sheep in an open woodland setting. A relaxed country atmosphere conveniently located near beaches, wineries, op shops and restaurants. Up to 3 sites available (max 1 caravan/camper or 2 tents/dwellings per site) Ideal for groups or individual campers. Our property is surrounded on two sides by reserve, the Balcombe Creek and bushland. BYO gear and set up in the paddock. We will meet you on arrival and direct you to the campsites. Access to a flushing toilet and a cold water tap/cold water shower with potable drinking water. We prefer no dogs due to peacocks and sheep and our own dogs... but please ask before booking anyway, and we will accommodate on a case-by-case basis. We are a 5 to 10-minute drive to the beautiful bay beaches of Mornington and Mt Martha and a 20-minute drive to Westernport bay and the surf beaches. Close to the nearly 60 wineries on the Mornington Peninsula, an abundance of restaurants, Peninsula Hot Springs and other attractions such as Arthurs Sea Eagle cable car, Enchanted Maze Garden, and many amazing bush walks.

Krystal Waters

3 sites · RVs, Tents26 acres · San Remo, VIC
Located on Phillip Island Road just before the town of San Remo and the bridge to Phillip Island. The property is 26 acres with beach frontage to Western Port Bay and views of French Island. The land has been used for pasture, mostly for cattle, with a large dam wall which at one time had a small gauge train track on top running to the old port of San Remo. These days the property is used as a hobby farm with a few cattle, a vegetable garden, some fruit trees, and replanting of native trees. We offer three RV/tent sites on the property, with our caretaker also residing onsite. While the sites ensure privacy, guests may encounter others during their stay since restroom facilities are shared among all campers. There is 1 shower with hot water and 1 flushing toilet. Site 1 stands apart from the other two sites, equipped with both power and water. Sites 2 and 3 are situated 20 meters apart, however, guests can spread out more if they do not need power. We're currently in the process of expanding our property, constructing several new sheds. As a result, you might notice building materials on-site. We've made every effort to separate these materials from the campsites and keep them out of the way. Our site is on a very busy main road and is easy to miss if you’re driving fast. I have a big sign on our gate but you may need to slow down in order to see it! The GPS should guide you right to the property. Please note, because of our elevated location the winds can be strong at times - but the views make it worth it in our opinion!

A beautiful bush block of 10 acres, only 2km from the famous Bells Beach. Torquay town is only a 10 min drive with a range of beautiful food and drinking options. Bellbrae is a beautiful suburb as it is very quiet and peaceful compared to the chaos and noise that comes to Torquay in quite season. Bellbrae would be the closest place to camp to Torquay whilst still getting peace, quiet and privacy.

Banksia Park Estate

4 sites · RVs32 acres · Newhaven, VIC
Take the time to experience Phillip Island and surrounds! Banksia Park Estate is in Newhaven, Phillip Island and is the perfect rural getaway! The property has you feeling like you are far away from civilisation, yet you are so close to all that Phillip Island has to offer. We are within walking distance to cafes, restaurants, playgrounds and The Phillip Island Chocolate Factory. A leisurely walk will take you over the bridge to the picturesque seaside village of San Remo, or a short drive to popular surf and swimming beaches and all other attractions on the Island. The property is nestled on 32 acres of a natural rural landscape of trees, wetlands with Westernport Bay and Churchill Island views unique to Banksia Park’s location. Banksia Park Estate is enriched with local history from the traditional owners of this land, the Bunurong / Boonwurrung people and the early settlers. Venture down through the trees to get a sense of what it would have been like for the Yallok Bulluk, as you experience the serenity of the untouched wetlands and see all of the native wild life at play. The chicory kiln at the entrance is known as the “Bern Denham kiln”. Bern Denham was one of the three original entrepreneurs in the 1920s who were the first to take tourists by torchlight to see the little penguins’ nightly arrival on the beach. Not to mention he was an influential contributor in getting the Phillip Island racetrack built and up and running. Please Note: that our property and all sited do not have any power, water or toilet facilities. Understanding that you may not need the amenities over night, but if you did by chance, with us being a rural property and an abundance of wildlife, we'd prefer guests not to use the trees as a bathroom. Therefore, you will need to be completely self – contained in a caravan, campervan or roof top tent set up. We actually can not offer Tent Sites (Tents, Swags, sleeping in cars etc) and reserve the right to decline the booking on arrival if your set up does not meet the requirements. We unfortunately need to state this upfront due to some of our previous guests, so if you can confirm your set up as being a caravan/campervan etc for your stay and that you have your own toilet as a minimum, we will be able to accept your booking. We would also like to let you know that our check - in on the day of arrival is between 2.00pm - 5.00pm and we will need an estimated time of arrival. That way we can make arrangements to be on-site to check you in. If needed, late check in within daylight hours can be arranged subject to our availability. In addition to the existing small number of suites, Banksia Park Estate is now offering camping sites, scattered around the property for self-contained caravans and campervans. A great way to get amongst the gum trees and ti-trees, to sit back and relax with the amazing views.

Field Phillip Island

8 sites · RVs7 acres · Ventnor, VIC
Field Phillip Island is a 7 acre working farm within walking distance to one of the Island's best beaches and Phillip Island Winery. We are located 6 minutes from the Penguin Parade and 15 minutes from Cowes. We are trialling one campsite. We farm Trees and Bees and share a passion for all things connected with nature on Phillip Island. This winter we planted over 1, 200 trees and have plans to plant another 4,500 trees next winter. Our 5 acre field is flat and filled with wildlife. We offer one Campsite on our field to ensure your privacy and to provide you with a place to rest. The ocean can often be heard from the property. Watch the sunrise or sunset from your own piece of paradise! Access to the field is easy and you can come and go as you please but we do prefer that, for the safety of guests and our wildlife, you are at your campsite before last light. We have resident populations of Wallabies, Cape Barron Geese, Eastern Bard Bandicoots, Brush Tailed Possums, Pobblebonk Frogs, Crickets and a pair of beautiful Wedge Tailed Eagles. Berry's Beach is an easy walk from your campsite and it offers an amazing beach and ocean environment. Berry's beach clifftop walks provide an ideal location for a sunset stroll and perhaps, to spot Mutton Birds or even a Whale or two. If entering the ocean is your thing fishing, snorkelling, shipwrecks, kayaking, rock pooling, surfing, sailing and sun baking are all there, or at beaches nearby. If food and wine is more your thing then Phillip Island Winery is only 800 paces away! We look forward to sharing this wonderful piece of paradise with you. Kind regards, Gaz and Kaz.

The best camping near Mornington Peninsula National Park guide

Overview

About

A favourite seaside escape for city dwellers, Mornington Peninsula National Park is an easy drive south of Melbourne. Australia’s casual surfers flock here to ride the waves at Gunnamatta, Flinders, and Point Leo beaches, while hikers who prefer to stay dry can soak up sweeping views of Bass Strait on the 18-kilometre Coastal Walk stretching from Cape Schanck to Portsea. Along the area’s sheltered northern coastline, foreshore camping areas feather out from colourful seaside villages like Sorrento, Blairgowrie, Rye, and Dromana.

Notable campgrounds

  • Best for families: The largest foreshore spot with more than 800 campsites, Rosebud Foreshore Campground stretches along Port Phillip Bay and features kids’ play structures and shady picnic lawns.
  • Best for boaters: Sorrento is close to boat ramps and the Queenscliff ferry for easy access to the Bellarine Peninsula.
  • Best for wildlife watchers: Inland at Green’s Bush, Lightwood Camping Area is home to wallabies, kangaroos, and birdlife.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. For large campgrounds like Rosebud, Rye, and Sorento, book a site online via the Mornington Peninsula Shire’s website. Camping permits are required and must be displayed at your site.
  2. Avoid the Christmas season (late December through January) and other holidays for lower camping fees and fewer crowds.
  3. Summer peak season reservations must be booked before the end of the current year’s peak season and require a deposit. If you’re too late, you can grab a spot on the waitlist.

When to go

Foreshore camping is open between late October and April each year, with peak season running during the Australian summer holidays (after Christmas), Easter, Labour Day, and the Melbourne Cup weekend (the last weekend in October). Go midweek or during shoulder season (February and March) for more room to roam while still enjoying warm weather. If you’re planning to visit Mornington Peninsula restaurants and wineries, note that many are closed on Monday and Tuesday.

Know before you go

  • Fires, including barbecues, are banned at all Mornington Peninsula camping areas. Pack a gas stove for cooking instead.
  • Hot showers and toilet blocks are available at Rosebud, Rye, and Sorrento campgrounds.
  • Campsites at Rosebud are not clearly marked, so get a map and ask for directions from the ranger’s office.
  • Book a pup sitter, as dogs and other pets are not welcome at camping areas.
