Moose Meadow

2 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents1 acre · Brighton, UT
This is a private driveway in a great location in Big Cottonwood Canyon. The driveway is long and surrounded by aspen, abutting the "old" unused house on my property, so it is private. Although near the main road, the site feels private. You are less than 1 minute walk to Big Cottonwood Creek, and there is hiking out the door in multiple directions, as well as easy biking to Solitude Resort. As a bonus, you are 1/4 mile from Silver Fork Lodge if you get a hankering for a prepared meal. Please note that there are NO DOGS allowed in Big or Little Cottonwood canyons. There is a high fine if so. So this is not an appropriate spot to bring your four-legged friends unfortunately.

The Hundred Acre Wood

4 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents103 acres · UT
Originally homesteaded by Edwin Whiting in the 1870s, the upper reaches of Hobble Creek Canyon have been ranched by our family since 1901.  Edwin was a fruit farmer and I suspect that the lone pear tree still growing (and bearing fruit) on the ranch, may have been planted by him nearly 150 years ago.  Today we raise horses, but mostly we raise kids and spirits.  Come up, set a spell, and renew your soul.

The best camping near Wasatch Mountain State Park guide

Overview

About

Wintertime? Ski down the mountain that hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics—or enjoy snowmobiling through the Alpine meadows, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing, plus tubing and a biathlon course.

Summertime? Reserve a tee time at one of the four Soldier Hollow golf courses at Wasatch Mountain (fans prefer the Mountain Course). Or opt for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, or visiting historical sites. Try Little Deer Creek if you're lookin' to blaze your ATV down the trail.

Campsites are closed during the winter (hint: there's lots of snow). During the summer, you've got 122 tent and RV sites to choose from. Amenities include hot showers, hookups, and picnic areas.

Four group sites (+ 1 primitive group site) let you hang with all your friends, or check out The Chalet (a lodge with a real kitchen!) for your group as well.

Notable campgrounds

  • Pine Creek Campground: A tranquil retreat surrounded by lush forestry, ideal for reconnecting with nature.
  • Chalet Campground: Near the park's Chalet, this site offers convenience and stunning greenery.
  • New Campground: Currently under construction, this campground promises modern facilities amid the park's beauty.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Book early to secure your spot, as campgrounds fill up quickly during peak seasons.
  • Consider visiting during the weekdays for better availability and a quieter experience.
  • Keep an eye on the park's website for updates on the new campground's opening and reservation details.
  • Explore nearby camping options if your preferred site is booked, ensuring you don't miss out on the Wasatch experience.

When to go

The best time to visit Wasatch Mountain State Park is during the summer and fall when the weather is warm and the landscape is vibrant. Winter offers a snowy wonderland for cold-weather activities, though some facilities may be limited. Spring can be unpredictable with rain and snowmelt.

Know before you go

  • Check the weather forecast and prepare for changing conditions, especially if you're venturing into higher elevations.
  • Some areas may be subject to closures for maintenance or wildlife protection; always respect signage and barriers.
  • Accessibility varies across the park; inquire ahead for specific needs or accommodations.
  • Remember to pack out all trash and leave no trace to preserve the park's natural beauty.
  • For any concerns or questions during your visit, reach out to a park ranger or staff member for assistance.
