Buck Acres near Lake Conroe, TX

20 sites · RVs, Tents6 acres · Montgomery, TX
The previous owner had plans to turn our property into a 42 site row by row RV Park. Once we saw the beauty of the property, we knew we had to keep it as wild and pristine as possible. On 6.5 acres the perfect number of sites was 18 keeping the large house for short-term rental (coming soon.) Sorry, we are still under construction but excited about our progress! See a short video at https://www.buckacresrv.com Buck Acres is technically not even an RV park, we just want to share our property with fellow travelers so we added some gravel roads. The only amenities are a Wi-Fi, 50/30/20A plug-ins, a porta-john and water. We use HipCamp and The Dyrt for bookings or just give us a call or text at (832) 303-9940 "Close to everything, away from it all" We're in the country but close to city amenities and beautiful Lake Conroe. It's only a few minutes from April Sound and the largest marina on Lake Conroe, 8 minutes to Wal-Mart and Kroger, yet it's peaceful and quiet on our forested property. As full-time RV nomads ourselves we know RV park rates are getting crazy, Buck Acres is our attempt to help the community. We've done everything we can to keep rates down. The only amenities we offer are shade, Wi-Fi, electricity, water, and an ADA porta john that is cleaned every week. Affordable RV parks shouldn't be sweltering parking lots where you're packed in like sardines! At Buck Acres we have 100' tall hardwoods and pines that have been trimmed up 60' for the safety of you and your rig! Buck Acres is still under construction and it is a labor of love. All proceeds go immediately back into the park. Bring your family, pets, and friends - tents and RVs welcome! Please Note: Quiet Hours are 10pm - 8am Please keep fires within designated fire rings Keep pets on leash - Clean up any pet waste Do not walk through other people’s campsites. Firefly Ranch

5 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents22 acres · Bleiblerville, TX
The property borders a small creek and has abundant trees, and wildlife. Beautiful views from every vantage with a high field on one half of the property and a low bottom land near the creek where there are many options for a relaxing, private stay. Chose big sky or a more secluded spot. Incredible wildflowers on display in the spring. The property is not bordered by close neighbors or dense housing, just more land so sunsets and rises are wonderful and open. Low ambient light pollution at night means the stars are very bright (and so are the fireflies)! If tent camping, please do not bring glass containers, also you must pack out all garbage and waste.

Hidalgo Falls Hideaway

11 sites · Tents13 acres · Navasota, TX
The 13-acre park at Hidalgo Falls is owned by the Texas Rivers Protection Association. It is located on the Brazos River about eight miles from Navasota.TRPA ownership of this property guarantees access to this popular and unique river resource. For whitewater paddlers, it offers a class II rapid with numerous surfing waves, holes, eddy lines and play spots. For flatwater paddlers, it provides a convenient and secure access point for float trips along a very historic stretch of the Brazos as well as a place to learn swiftwater techniques and rescue skills. In the four miles downstream from the rapid archaeologists have unearthed mastodon bones from the riverbank, and the remains of  an early 20th century lock and dam system still loom large in the river. All of this is just upstream from Washington on the Brazos State Park, birthplace of the republic of Texas. Stephen F. Austin is said to have crossed the river often at Hidalgo Falls. It is also said that you could tell if you had a knowledgeable riverboat captain if he could get his boat upstream of the rapid and back down before the river level dropped stranding the boat upriver near Millican or Port Sullivan. The fast moving water and play features of the rapid are rarities in this part of the state. During the year volunteer fire departments in the region use the falls for training firefighters in swiftwater rescue.A 2 mile hike and bike trail are being worked on now and will soon open. Volunteers are always welcome!

The best camping near Stephen F. Austin State Park guide

Overview

About

Named after the “Father of Texas,” this well-maintained park is set near the birthplace of the Anglo American settlement in Texas (learn about them at the San Felipe Historic Site next door). Several overnight facilities at Stephen F. Austin offer more than 100 campsites, including RV sites, tent sites, group sites, and lodging options. The park also features five miles of hiking and biking trails, playgrounds, ball courts, an 18-hole golf course, and an interpretive nature center. Visitors can fish from the banks of the Brazos River or try to spot the plentiful wildlife, including white-tailed deer and more than 100 species of birds.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Plan to make a reservation as soon as you know your dates. Campsites and cabins can be reserved up to five months in advance, while the group hall and group camp can be reserved 12 months in advance.
  2. If your plans are flexible and you want to avoid the crowds, try to visit during the week or during non-holiday periods.
  3. If you don’t have a reservation, arrive at the park first thing in the morning to grab any unreserved sites that might be available for walk-ups.

When to go

The park is popular from spring to fall. Visit in spring for wildflowers—especially bluebonnets. You can also see fireflies light up the evening sky in May or June. Hiking and birdwatching are best in spring and fall, when the weather is the most pleasant.

Know before you go

  • Swimming in the Brazos River is not recommended due to swift currents and changing water levels. Trails may close due to weather or when muddy.
  • Bring bug repellent, as mosquitos can be an issue here.
  • Gathering of firewood is prohibited in the park. Firewood and ice are available for purchase.
  • Generators cannot be used inside the park.
  • Pets are not allowed inside buildings, and must be kept on a leash and attended at all times.
