Camping near San Angelo with horseback riding guide

Overview

Historic San Angelo is an oasis in the heart of Texas. With three local lakes and the Concho River, this is a magnet for boaters and anglers. Get on the water quickly from the many local campgrounds and RV parks. From rustic sites to luxe retreats, there’s an option for every adventurer.

At San Angelo State Park, choose from three camping areas, each with picnic tables and showers. North Concho sits on the river, while Red Arroyo and Lakeview offer easy access to O.C. Fisher Lake. Borrow fishing gear from the park and cast for bass and catfish; there’s also a boat launch on site. If you prefer to stay on land, 50 miles of trails are open to hikers, bikers, and horses.

Camp on the shores of Lake Nasworthy at Middle Creek or Spring Creek parks. These family-friendly areas offer swimming beaches and water sports. You can camp year-round; in the winter, get your permit from Spring Creek Marina. If you’re looking for luxuries like cable TV and Wi-Fi, head to the RV parks around the Concho Valley.

Want to get away from it all? Head to the quiet shores of Twin Buttes Reservoir. There are no developed campsites, but you can camp on the public lands around the lake. Bring your fishing gear—the lake is teeming with largemouth bass and catfish.
