On the northern bank of the Rio Grande, just minutes from the Mexican border, Laredo is an ideal camping haven for those looking to enjoy the outdoors. Catch some fresh air just north of Laredo at Lake Casa Blanca International State Park, where you can pitch a tent for a weekend of swimming, boating, fishing and wildlife watching. You’ll might just see birds, waterfowl, butterflies, dragonflies, black-tailed jackrabbits, lizards, frogs, and even snakes. For a nice outdoor walk or run, visit the three-mile riverside trail at Zacate Creek. Lake Casa Blanca International State Park is the only game in town when it comes to camping in Laredo, but if you’re looking for other lodging options, you’ll find a number of private campgrounds and RV parks just a short drive to the northeast. The Laredo area is also steeped in history, so don't miss the chance to visit museums and other historic sites around town, where you can learn about the region’s prominent role in the Mexican-American and Civil Wars.
