Pets are welcome! We are close to Magnolia Beach, Port Lavaca business district, and Indianola. When you feel the gulf breezes, you know you've made it to Goose Island. Nestled near St. Charles and Aransas Bays, this Texas state park is all about the water. We're talking boating, kayaking, fishing, and birdwatching along the coast. We primarily cater to month to month guests working in the area so there's not a ton of activities around, but my wife and I are full-time RV'ers so we are hosts as a way to give back to our awesome community. We are located super close to Magnolia Beach though where there is free beach camping for 14 nights! Pets are allowed. Please make sure you pick up after them. We offer discounted rates to HipCampers at $25/night (usually $30) and $150/week (usually $175). We also now have golf carts available for rent!! https://magnoliabeachrvpark.com

The best camping near Goose Island State Park guide

Overview

About

When you feel the gulf breezes, you know you've made it to Goose Island. Nestled near St. Charles and Aransas Bays, this Texas state park is all about the water. We're talking boating, kayaking, fishing, and birdwatching along the coast. The only thing you can't do is swim. (Sorry.)

That said, there's plenty of luck to be had on the 1,620-foot fishing pier. A boat launch and kayak/canoe launch are also available. Remember to bring your own boat! No stay is complete without visiting the main attraction—a 1,000-year-old oak lovingly dubbed The Big Tree. (Don't worry, it's still standing strong in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.)

The campgrounds include 44 bay-front sites and 57 shaded oak sites. Bonus: both camping loops feature restrooms with showers. You can also choose from 25 rustic walk-in sites and a group camping area. Just be sure to check with Texas Parks and Wildlife before you travel. Closures due to hurricane damage are a bummer, but they happen.

Notable campgrounds

  • Bayfront Campsites: Wake up to serene water views at one of the 44 campsites along the bay, complete with water and electricity.
  • Oak Grove Camping: Nestle your tent or RV under the shelter of live oaks in one of the 57 sites offering shade and modern conveniences.
  • Walk-in Tent Sites: For a more rustic experience, choose from 25 walk-in tent sites that let you get even closer to nature.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Book early, especially if you plan to visit during the busy seasons from Memorial Day to Labor Day, October to Thanksgiving, or January through April.
  • Use the park's online reservation system or call the customer service center to ensure your spot amid the natural beauty.
  • Consider visiting during the weekdays for better availability and a quieter camping experience.
  • Explore nearby camping options if Goose Island State Park reaches capacity, ensuring you don't miss out on the area's allure.

When to go

The best times to visit Goose Island State Park are during the milder seasons, from October to April, when the Texas heat is less intense. Summer months bring higher temperatures and larger crowds. Keep in mind, the wettest months are August through October, which could impact outdoor activities.

Know before you go

  • Check the park's capacity before visiting; reservations are highly recommended to guarantee entry.
  • Remember, fishing from shore or pier in a Texas state park does not require a license, so feel free to cast a line.
  • Stay safe by reading up on alligator safety tips, as these creatures are occasionally spotted in the park.
  • Accessibility is a priority, but some natural areas may be challenging for those with mobility issues.
  • Facilities include restrooms with showers, a fish cleaning station, and a park store for your convenience.
