The best camping near Big Lake, Texas.

A campfire on a cool evening is enjoyable any place outdoors.
Gettin' fishin' poles ready. Hmm, no lines, no hooks and no bait. Oh, well, who cares?
Great place for a granddaughter and a granddad. There is a special love there!
Just gotta throw rocks in a river!
The start of another wonderful day.

The landowners have made this sturdy canoe available for campers to use to adventure across the river.
After getting our tents set up, we hung out in the camping area for a bit before walking down the path to the river access area. The camping clearing has a picnic table, bench, fire pit and plenty of space for large groups.
There are plenty of trees large enough to string up hammocks, if that's your camping style. We put one up and enjoyed overlooking the springs and vegetation.
We did plenty of fishing from the shore, but we caught some of our largest fish out on the canoe in the deeper parts of the river.
The cool breeze in the area is a nice relief from the hot Texas summer and makes it easy to kick back and relax.

The gravel bar across the river is perfect for lizard-laying after a dip.
Time slows down just a little bit here, for everyone. No watches, little cell service, and wifi available if you must.

Our setup: sleeping bag and air mattress in the back of the car, plus a cooler as a makeshift table. There is also a picnic table on the other side of the campfire ring that makes a good spot for cooking and hanging out.
Hanging out at the site picnic table before heading south to Big Bend Ranch State Park.
You don't need a tent to camp! Make sure your vehicle can handle bumpy rides – the road to the campsite is definitely a primitive one.
