Balmorhea State Park
Explore the world's largest spring fed swimming pool and desert wetlands.
At 48 acres, Balmorhea is not the largest park. The 3.5 million gallon, 1.3-acre swimming pool more than makes up for it.
The world's largest spring-fed pool is chlorinated and is 72 to 76 degrees all year. Up to 25 feet deep, it's perfect for diving and swimming. It's also big enough for scuba diving lessons.
The pool and bathhouses were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. Aside from the pool, you can enjoy trails through restored desert wetlands. These clenagas, as they're also called, are home to endangered fish and wildlife.
Enjoy a picnic in one of the designated areas or the group hall. Sports lawns give children a place to play and run. Stay in the park at one of 34 campsites, which welcome tents and RVs. A day trip from camping areas in the Davis Mountains takes about 30 to 45 minutes.
