Austin might be known as the "Live Music Capital of the World," but it's also located right in the middle of some of the greatest green spaces in Texas. Why not pack up the car, pitch a tent and see if those stars at night are really "big and bright"? If you're looking to stay close to Austin's city limits, you're in luck. McKinney Falls State Park is only 10 miles away from downtown, but feels like a world away. Popular activities include fishing and swimming at Onion Creek, and exploring the nearly nine miles of hike and bike trails. The campground is ready for both RV and tent visitors, or sleep in one of their six cabins. Just a little bit further west of Austin you can grab a floatie and kick back on Lake Travis. At Pace Bend Park, water sports are a must with plenty of swimming, boating and cliff diving action. And just west of there, near Johnson City, you'll discover Pedernales Falls. Layers and layers of limestone surround the river making for a picturesque and serene spot. So what are you waiting for? Mere minutes separate you from an amazing camping experience.
