Grab the apple pie and get ready to exercise your right to bare arms (and legs) because Oconee is the perfect all-American summer getaway. Groove your way through an evening square dance, scream cowabunga as you leap into the swimming hole, and fall asleep beside the fireplace to the hum of crickets in your old-fashioned wooden cabin. Soon you’ll be adding Oconee to your list of classics, right beside Moby Dick and the Rolling Stones. For the hardcore hikers out there, Oconee is conveniently located right at the southern trailhead of the Foothills Trail, a stretch of 80 miles atop the Blue Ridge Mountains. Now take a seat upon the stone bench beneath a dogwood tree, listen to the distant thump of a woodpecker, and thank your lucky stars for this little patch of America the Beautiful.
