The farm was once a portion of the McTureus Plantation.  Tony's family members were once enslaved on the plantation. Upon Emancipation a family member bought land and it remained in the family.  Tony is a descendant of those family members whose foresight allowed us to be here today.  Tony's parents entrusted the care and preservation of the property to us and we are doing our best to be good stewards and teach the value of this property to our children and young grandchildren.  Visit our farm and feel ocean breezes, smell the salty air, hear the calls of owls, doves, and our ‘friendly fowl’, turkeys, ducks, geese and chickens.    We are Tony and Belinda Jones of Morning Glory Homestead, a small, 12.4 acre, sustainable farm.   We returned to our family property to raise our five children and begin farming after Tony served 20 years in the military.  We are nestled in a beautiful, subtropical, wooded area filled with Live and Water Oaks draped with moss, tall Loblolly Pines, magnificent glossy Magnolias, American Sweet Gum trees and fragrant Wax Myrtles.  Our farm is on a tract of land that was at one time the McTureus Plantation, later bought by the Coffin Family and is a short drive to Coffin Point Plantation.  Currently, we offer two sites. One is nearer the farm house and our field while the other is along the trail deeper in the woods.   The beach at Hunting Island State Park is only 5 miles away and there are wildlife viewing areas and boat landings all around the island.  The Lowcountry is great for water sports, kayaking, boating, jet skiing, sailing and canoeing.  Each season offers an opportunity to participate in fishing, crabbing, shrimping or digging for oysters in local waters.  Explore the waters of the ACE (Ashepoo, Combahee and Edisto)  Basin, the Port Royal Sound which is the estuary of bodies of water including the Broad and the Beaufort Rivers.  Our area is a favorite of cyclist groups, the long, flat, rural, scenic, roads offer pleasant riding experiences for cyclist of all ability levels.  There are bike lanes on many of the major roads.  These roads double as great areas for hikers to explore the local historical buildings, flora and fauna.  Other recreational activities in our area are geocaching, horseback riding, tennis, golf, rock climbing wall, beach volleyball, beachcombing, and birdwatching. While here you can enjoy historical tours of Beaufort County’s earliest years of the Santa Helena colony in the mid 1600’s, the revolutionary war period, the pre-civil war and plantation time period and the antebellum, reconstruction history up to the Civil Rights visits of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Historic Penn Center.  In January 2017, several historical locations in Beaufort County were established as the Reconstruction Era National Monument to include Darrah Hall on the Penn Center Campus, Brick Baptist Church both on St. Helena Island only a few miles from our farm.      It’s hard to say when is the best time of year to visit.  There are a few special events throughout the year, Gullah Festival-May, Water Festival-July, Shrimp Festival-October, Beaufort Food Truck Festival-October, Soft Shell Crab Festival-April, Pat Conroy Festival-November, Heritage Days Festival-November, Night on the Town-December.  There’s something for everyone.

Friendly Fowl Farm
Loved camping with our teardrop camper on Belinda's land. We took advantage of the farm fresh eggs and firewood extras - the eggs were delicious, and the morning and evening fires were appreciated as we had some cooler temperatures. Spigot for water was near the goat and rooster pens and enjoyed talking to the animals as we filled up. We love privacy and the sounds of nature and this site provided both. The evenings were quiet with only the occasional owl hooting and in the morning we enjoyed listening to the turkeys, roosters and an occasional woodpecker. The site itself is along the trail to the house, but very private. The spigot water is potable, but was told it did have a bit of sulfur odor so we drank water we had brought and used the spigot water for showers and washing dishes. We enjoy cycling and biked from the campsite to Hunting Island, Lands End on St. Helena's , and to the Spanish Moss trail in Beaufort. For the latter you do need to bike on Rt 21 for a bit, but there is a bike lane and google maps will take you on some back roads to avoid as much of 21 as possible. This was our first Hipcamp experience and loved it and our hosts. I highly recommend and hope to be back in the future.

Clean, safe, quiet farm!
This spot is so beautiful and perfect for a quiet night of camping. The site is clean and feels very safe. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. And, of course, it is so fun to interact with all of their animals on the farm!

Cozy spot in the South Carolina woods. Even had a flush toilet and rustic shower. I was serenaded by Barred and Great-horned Owls...
