Just west of the Idaho border in Oregon's vast and sparsely populated Malheur County, tiny Vale provides easy access to the Snake River and several state parks and recreation areas, including Succor Creek State Natural Area, Farewell Bend State Recreation Area, and Lake Owyhee State Park. The area is great for people in search of a quiet getaway and has a solid mix of RV and tent sites on local ranches and farms, plus a few cabins. Plus, the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge is about a 2-hour drive away, as is the Steens Mountain Wilderness and the Malheur National Forest. Summers in Vale are warm and sunny without too much rainfall, making it an ideal time of year to take advantage of Vale camping. Look out for some of the best campsites just over the border in Idaho or in the nearby town of Ontario, Oregon.
