Hygieia Wellness

1 site ¡ Tent110 acres ¡ Espanola, ON
A perfect place for nature enthusiasts and avid hikers! Please read entire instructions/ description to ensure our property is geared towards your needs! This property is intended for backcountry campers. 110 acres of mixed forest with West River running through the property. The property is on both sides of HWY 6, with approximately 80 acres on the west side backing onto crown land and a trestle bridge. There is also one tagged/ marked trail that leads to a cold spring on this side of the property. This trail is located behind the shipping container and is about 100m up the drive way to the right. This trail is steep and skilled hiking is required, it is about 1.5km long. Please let it be known that this trail is not perfectly groomed, you will need proper hiking apparel. The property is virtually untouched and we would like to keep it that way. Swimming or Drinking the water is not recommended. USE AT OWN RISK. You will know when you have arrived when you see the white Hygieia Wellness banner and 40 foot shipping container (which will become a rentable tiny home soon enough! stay posted). We have NO specifically designated campsites available for tent campers but anywhere on the property is fair game. The ONLY area to park is at the entrance before the shipping container. You will not be able to park near your campsite unless you choose to set up on the paved path. We have a short paved path designated for Trailer/ RV campers (size may be an issue) the turn is tight coming off the highway. This paved way is meant for car parking as well. Campfires are permitted in an open and safe setting. Please be mindful as to whether or not a fire ban is in effect. Pets welcome! The east side of the property is about 30 acres with the calmer part of the West River running through it, headed towards Whitefish Falls. Portaging access to Nellie Lake is possible. Known for good pickerel fishing! This property is loaded with beautiful wildlife, rock ridges, hemlock woods, mushroom foraging and advanced hiking opportunities. There are minimal distinct trails and it is important you have intermediate hiking skills. The only way to cross the river is by walking beside the highway guardrails or by crossing the trestle bridge located near the back of the property on the west side. You can access the east side of the property from Widgawa Rd. This location is completely off the grid, there is little to no service, there are no permanent structures or bathroom facilities. This property is located 12 minutes from all the amenities located in Espanola. Please do not litter on the property, we want to keep our forest as clean as possible! We hope you have a wicked stay and make great memories you’ll never forget!

Fieldview is a really special place that we want to share with all of you- - we have organic kitchen gardens, fruit trees, unique buildings (a small cabin with a traditional Russian trimwork, aka "gingerbread house on steroids", a unique cordwood outhouse), an apiary and a friendly habitat for all living beings. We love nature and live a simple, minimalist lifestyle, growing our own food, caring for our Mother Earth and creating beautiful things that last. Located on a quarter acre of land, tucked into a corner of a hay field, surrounded by fields, forests, and hedgerows, there is a house, cabin, woodworking shop, and a few outbuildings. We have plenty of lawn space if you want to play ball or just lay on the grass! We have a fire-pit, a spot to spread a blanket under a big White Pine or relax in a hammock in the shade of the two Balsam firs. The campsite has an electrical cord available for you phone/computer charging needs. There is a kitchen table and a few chairs for you and your family to enjoy outdoor meals and drinks. We have just built a brand new composting toilet equipped with a little sink (we provide hand towels, toilet paper and soap) and outdoor shower with COLD running water. We are working on having hot water available - please be patient with us! We ask not to smoke on the property (no tobacco, cigarettes, marijuana or vaping), please go for a walk on the road if you need to have a smoke. Clean up and pack all your garbage. We have a very social outdoor cat that would likely spend days with you. He is very, very interested in food and can not control himself, just be aware that he might steal and chew through bags. We specifically provided a plastic bin for you to cat-proof all your food. PLEASE NOTE: There is an ongoing fire ban on Manitoulin Island - no open fires or fireworks. Camp stoves are allowed.

The best camping near Killarney Provincial Park guide

Overview

About

The early 20th-century Canadian landscape artists known as the Group of Seven captured the wind-swept pines, granite ridges, and white quartzite peaks of the La Cloche Mountains across this region, and if you trek the hiking trails or go paddling across the lakes of Killarney Provincial Park, you’ll see why. Set along Georgian Bay, Killarney is one of Ontario’s most striking outdoor destinations and one of its most-visited provincial parks. Day-hike “The Crack” for awesome views, check out the pink granite along the Chikanishing Trail, plan a backpacking adventure on the 80-kilometer La Cloche Silhouette Trail, go canoeing on Bell Lake, or follow canoe routes into the backcountry.

Notable campgrounds

  • Best for family-friendly camping: George Lake Campground is a car-camping area with washrooms and showers.
  • Best for tent campers: Blue Heron Circle at George Lake Campground
  • Best for backcountry camping by canoe: Killarney’s 183 backcountry wilderness sites

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Reserve campsites in Killarney Provincial Park up to five months in advance through Ontario Parks online reservations service. And book early! Since this is one of Ontario’s most-visited parks, the year-round car-camping sites and yurts at George Lake Campground fill up early, as do the backcountry sites reachable on foot or by canoe.
  2. Hikers can reserve specific campsites along the La Cloche Silhouette hiking trail. Paddlers reserve a particular zone or lake area to camp in each night, but the specific campsites within that area are first-come, first-served.
  3. George Lake Campground becomes a walk-in area from late November until early May, when campers haul gear to their sites or yurts on park-provided toboggans.

When to go

With mild days and crisp nights when the trees turn red and gold, September and October are the best months to visit Killarney Provincial Park. July and August are warmer, though normally more crowded, especially on weekends. In spring and early summer, mosquitoes and black flies can be fierce—come prepared with repellent and protective clothing. The park and George Lake Campground stay open year-round for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and camping, although washrooms close in winter.

Know before you go

  1. From the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 69), it’s 67 kilometres to Killarney Provincial Park along Highway 637, which has a gas station but limited services.
  2. The tiny town of Killarney has a general store, a couple of pubs, and a legendary fish ‘n’ chips stand. For a broader selection of groceries, shop in Parry Sound to the south or Sudbury to the north.
  3. Near the park entrance, Killarney Outfitters stocks camping gear, rents kayaks and canoes, and offers trip-planning and outfitting services. Other Ontario outfitters can organize multi-day backcountry canoeing trips or backpacking adventures as well. The Friends of Killarney Park sell detailed maps of hiking trails and canoe routes for backcountry trip planning.
