Mellow Moose Campground

50 sites ¡ RVs, Tents9 acres ¡ Minot, ND
Beautiful wooded sites create a shaded and cozy camping experience! We are a brand new campground opening in the Summer of 2023, so more amenities will become available as the summer progresses. We are excited to announce we are starting to open our tent sites. These sites have electricity. Camper vans and truck-mounted campers can fit in some of these sites. Due to the wooded nature of the site, travel trailers over 35 feet long will have difficulty moving through the campground. I would be happy to chat if you have any questions about whether your unit will fit in the campground. Note: - The Mellow Moose Campground is currently under construction. Follow our progress on social media! - The Bison Plant Trail is a hiking and biking trail for the whole family! It is located nearby and popular all year long. Also, it's a great spot for birding! - Reservations are now being accepted. Mellow Moose Campground has 3 loops. Sites 1-19 are mostly back-in RV sites. Sites 20-39 are tent sites; while pick-up campers and sprinter vans are welcome, there are no pull-behind trailers allowed on these sites. Sites 41-48 are mostly pull-through RV sites.

Learn more about this land: Rent for June, July and August for three months for $3000 or one month $1000. Contact me for details briangale@dakotafootankle.com There's 9 acres of land with 700 feet of Missouri River access. There's an area that is designated for a camper, and the area around the road onto the property can be used for camping as well. The area that is level and drivable can be used. There's a natural small bay with shallow water that dogs and people can swim in; the hill from the land down to the water is steep and there's no steps or deck, it's all natural. You can see from the picture that it's a large area with only one home to the south and no homes to the North.

The best camping near Lake Sakakawea State Park guide

Overview

About

If you’re looking for fun on the water in North Dakota, then Lake Sakakawea State Park should be on your camping shortlist. The park is next to the Garrison Dam, on the southern shore of the lake, and there are oodles of water-recreation opportunities, with the facilities to support it. There’s a full-service marina, boat storage, and two sizable boat ramps (they’re near the best salmon fishing on the entire lake, too!). It’s no surprise that there’s so much out here—the lake is one of the three largest man-made reservoirs in the entire U.S. You’re bound to want to stay for a night (or more), and you can cozy up in one of two cabins, or at the campground.

Notable campgrounds

  • Modern Campsites: Equipped with electricity and water for a comfortable stay amid nature.
  • Group Campsites: Ideal for larger gatherings, allowing multiple units on one site.
  • Primitive Campsites: For a more rustic experience, these sites offer a serene escape.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Book your campsite 95 days in advance to secure your preferred dates.
  • Consider off-peak seasons for better availability and a quieter experience.
  • Keep an eye on cancellations for last-minute opportunities.
  • Explore nearby camping options if your desired campsite is unavailable.

When to go

The best time to visit Lake Sakakawea State Park is during the summer months when the weather is warm and all facilities are open. However, for those seeking solitude and cooler temperatures, the shoulder seasons of spring and fall are ideal. Winter offers a unique experience but be prepared for cold weather and limited services.

Know before you go

  • Check the weather forecast and pack accordingly for North Dakota's variable climate.
  • Be aware of park hours, typically from 8:30am to 5pm, and plan your visit within these times.
  • Remember to bring your own bedding and towels as they are not provided in cabins.
  • Pets are welcome in the park but must remain on a leash; designated off-leash areas are available.
  • For safety, familiarize yourself with the park's rules and regulations before engaging in water activities or trail exploration.
