The San Francisco River runs through our valley from the north; Whitewater and Mineral Creeks cascade from the east; the spectacular Mogollon Mountain Range outlines the sky. We are surrounded by the Gila National Forest and the first Wilderness area to be established in the United States.
The stunning and diverse landscape of the surrounding area covers four of the six life zones. This is a bird watchers paradise; from the bald and golden eagles to the resident great blue herons and black hawks, migrating cranes and ducks to six different species of hummingbirds.
Our piece of heaven is home of the Cosmic Campground which was recently granted the distinction of becoming the first Dark Sky Sanctuary in North America.
The Greater Glenwood area is rich in history from the pre-historic Mimbreno Culture; famous Apache Chiefs: Mangas Colorado, Victorio, and Geronimo; Mining camps, ghost towns; the "Wild Bunch" and Butch Cassidy; the first motorized "Air Ship" to fly in New Mexico and conservationist Aldo Leopold.
Glenwood is known for the Catwalk National Recreation Trail (located 4 miles up the canyon from the Pond House) and other great hiking trails.
