Not only was Lillian’s cabin charming and rustic, but it gave a feeling of peace and quiet that few other places I’ve been have. Our host was accommodating and went above and beyond to ensure we knew the lay of the land and felt at home. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to truly get off the grid and experience life as it was in the old west.

This property is way off the grid. It was absolutely amazing. The house has a guardian cat that will talk to you. Lillian was an amazing hostess that took me around her ranch and showed me so many amazing things. Definitely need to know there is a long dirt road to get there. There is an outhouse. There is no running water, electricity or cell/internet service.
There are stars for miles, amazing sunsets and sunrises, there is quiet and stillness that brings an amazing peace. You want to just disconnect completely and enjoy your surroundings.

I thought Hearts Haven was a delight. It’s not for everyone. It’s 20 miles of dirt road off the beaten path up in the high plains. The road was rough at time but the scenery makes up for it. We saw many wild antelope with their fawns. The rustic experience was a great teaching tool for our eight year old grandson so that he could get a taste of life before video games and even electrify or running water. I would recommend that you bring a few gallons of extra water. The sleeping arrangement wasn’t ideal since it was three single beds however we did ok. Lillian was lovely and we enjoyed the houses resident house cat

This was exactly what I was looking for. 23 miles down a dirt road out in the middle of nowhere. Lillian was very helpful; showed me all the ins and outs - where everything was and how things worked. The wood fired oven was plenty warm. I had to get up in the night to refill the burn box, but I expected that. No electricity. Solar panels charge a battery that's just strong enough to keep the LED lights shining until about bed time. After that there is an oil lamp on the table if you need it. No plumbing. If you need water to wash your hands/face there's a windmill pump and water tank nearby, or bring your own. A nice outhouse is about 100 feet away for when nature calls. If you want to cook a meal, you have two options. Try your hand with the wood fired oven or use the propane fired 4-burner oven. The two twin size beds were comfortable, clean, with plenty of blankets. It was absolutely quiet - 100%, except for a faint morning moo from a cow in the distance. Cabin is adobe with wooden ceiling and tin roof.

Lillian is a wonderful host, and we thank her for sharing the history of both her family and the land. The schoolhouse is a special place to stay. It's easy to imagine children writing on the blackboard or sitting on the front steps. The ranch offers endless hikes and beautiful vistas of Canon Largo and the Canadian River. We are sure to return.

Lillian and her land are magic! We feel so lucky to have discovered her beautiful land, rich history, shining personality, loving animals and fun adventures. She was so incredible with my three kids and our stay at her ranch was one of the highlights of our travels! She is so generous with her home and land. What an experience. We can’t wait to go back!!!! Thank you Lillian for having us, we miss you guys!!

Recommended if you know what to expect! Gorgeous land, gorgeous views and sunsets, was magical with the horses! Just know what a compost toilet is, and don't expect electricity but one probably doesn't expect these things when searching on HipCamp. Mattress provided, no bunks, need to bring own bedding. Overall very beautiful, enjoyed the fire pit, and the quiet: ) Lillian is a great and responsive host.

Lilian's property is one reason to visit but Lilian herself is the other! In the short time that I stayed she gave me a wonderful and unforgettable experience! If you really want to be far into an unadulterated experience of the land then go.

Largo Ranch is amazing. My bf and I stayed two nights and it was magical. Lillian is an exceptional host who took us out to the rim and a hike through caves. The cabin has everything you need and nothing you don’t, and it’s absolutely gorgeous with lots of personal touches. The house’s cat, Zephyr, will *steal your heart*. We were treated to a rare rain shower and a full rainbow one evening, immediately followed by a phenomenal night sky. Truly magical.
It is a drive to get out there, but worth it. We set our odometer and it was closer to a 23.5mi drive down the dirt/gravel road than 25. Just have your eyes peeled between 23 and 25, it’ll be on your left kind of tucked back a bit. Again, sooo worth it!

This is the best crowd share site I’ve ever stayed at!
Lillian is a tremendous host. She waited for us (we got lost and were about an hour behind), drove us out to the rim at sunset, and even hiked up to the caves with us to see the petroglyphs the next morning. She is a fountain of historical knowledge- absolutely a pleasure to talk with. There are tons of artifacts on the ranch- it’s really, really cool.
The house is lovely. Everything you need, nothing you don’t. The breeze coming through kept us cool in the middle of July, and we were even treated to a summer rainstorm with a beautiful whole rainbow in the pasture. There’s a cat who lives in/around the house- Zephyr- and he’s possibly the most loving and adventurous cat you’ll meet!
The ranch is so quiet and serene. The horses and cows are nearby, and we also saw a horned toad and tons of interesting dragonflies. I wouldn’t change a thing about this place- it’s really spiritual experience.

If your looking for a place to unplug and get back to nature I highly recommend Largo Rim Ranch. This beautiful and expansive property is off the beaten trail but well worth the trip. Anyone lucky enough to experience this location is in for a life changing experience. Coming from Vermont I am used to breath taking landscapes but this area is vastly different from anything I have ever seen. Big sky's and endless fields give way to an unimaginable canyon rich with wildlife and Native American history. Lillian is a friendly and inspirational host. Her knowledge of the land helps you understand landmarks that would otherwise go unnoticed. This area is only meant for those that are willing to appreciate natural beauty. The land should be respected and left the way that its found. I hope to return to this spot with my children one day and share my experience with others.

We just returned from spending 2 days at Largo Rim Ranch, and we are already talking about when we can go back! The ranch is absolutely beautiful and allows you to be fully immersed in the lifestyle of living in the countryside. The cabin is an old school house with an earthen floor and all the amenities one would need for a comfortable stay. The front door looks right out onto the sunrise, and the stars over head at night are a sight to see! Lillian showed us around the property and took us to some very special places. We were able to look out onto Largo Canyon, and hike up and down the side of the cliffs and explore the caves. The caves are untouched Native American caves with petroglyphs, grindstones, and other evidence of an ancient way of life. Lillian is undeniably connected to her land, and we feel so incredibly blessed having been able to experience it. Our time at Largo Rim has been one of the most memorable trips we've taken, and Lillian deserves all the credit for sharing her time and sacred places with us! A great place to slow down, unwind, count your blessings, and appreciate nature's true beauty. We will definitely be back soon!

If you relish an opportunity to experience a remote beautiful landscape put Largo Rim Ranch on your list. The canyon vistas are not to be missed. Expansive skies, day and night. Unplug and relax. Lillian is a very accommodating host with extensive knowledge of the area.

Let me start by saying - I've stayed at many, many Hipcamps. This is my favorite.
It's quite the trek to get to Largo Rim Ranch. We drove in from the south and spent roughly 80-90 miles on a road with nothing else in sight. If you're coming from Santa Fe or Las Vegas, it's not as long. But then you get on the dirt road for 25 miles. It might sound a bit crazy, but it's definitely worth it.
The cabin is a cozy, 100+ year old, two room structure that originally served as a schoolhouse for the children of the original homesteaders in the area. It's been renovated with the utmost care utilizing as many of the original materials and building techniques as possible.
The ranch comprises of over 1000 acres and it will take you a while to see it all. The ranch sits atop a plateau and has stunning views overlooking a canyon and the Sabinoso Wilderness area. Along the hillside, there are a number of caves that were the homes to Native Americans in the area years ago. You can still find petroglyphs on the outside of the caves. The property also has a large lake and tons of hiking.
This is not really a place to stay at while you visit a nearby destination. Largo Rim Ranch IS the destination. Ideally, you come here and stay for 2-3 days, because that's what it's going to take to really explore this place.
I really can't say enough good things about this place. Just visit Largo Rim Ranch. You won't regret it.
