This property which was part of a land-grant over 300 years ago sits on ancient hunting grounds. It use to be grasslands where long-ago hunters and their camps were spread throughout these mountain foot hills and high mesas. The forests of Piñons, Cedars, Juniper and Ponderosas growing in the last 50 years or so. Arrowheads and chert and even pieces of pottery can be found sometimes. Every 7 years or so the Piñon trees produce nuts that we collect and we use their sap, trementina, in our soap we make. We have coyotes howling most nights. Sometimes we come across Elk and Deer tracks. We've seen a Bobcat and we have photos of cougar prints too. Bear sometimes visit our neck of these woods and we are surrounded by Carson National Forest. Lots of old timber roads are still here for hiking on.

It's pretty quiet and peaceful and at night the skies are INCREDIBLE with no light pollution. The Milky Way is so close you feel as tho you can reach up and dust the sky with your fingertips. It's that amazing.
I post to Instagram weekly about my art mainly, but also about trips to the rivers or creeks in the area. And I love posting about weather too. Check it out if instagram.com/cheyannesexton/ helps. This area is gorgeous and we feel very blessed to get to live here everyday.
