To all the people who insist Jersey is just smokestacks and bad tans, we’d like to present…Wawayanda State Park. Set in the rolling hills along Lake Wawayanda, the Park is a true gem. Canoeists, boaters (rentals are available!), swimmers and fishermen relax in the crystal blue lake, while hikers explore the park’s sixty miles of trails, including a twenty-mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail. We’d recommend hauling it up Wawayanda Mountain—the views will flip all Jersey stereotypes on their head. Visiting in winter? Wawayanda stands at 1,140 feet above sea level (hint: good snow!) and is a blast for cross-country skiing, ice fishing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling.
