Uncle Willie's

6 sites · RVs, Tents20 acres · Stroudsburg, PA
Once known as the Middaugh Farm , this property produced Corn, Buckwheat, Pigs, Chickens, and White Clay.  Forced to sell off a northern 70 acre Tract, which is now off the Tax Roles and held by the DOI,  and other non contiguous properties to help maintain the remaining 268 acres, The streams host turtles, crayfish and minnoes.  Deer , Rabbits, Squirrels, Foxes, Chipmunks, Coyotes (not the immigration kind, ) and the occasional Black Bear occupy the area. Named after my Father, who passed October 09 2017.  It is my goal to keep the property undeveloped, and ON the tax rolls through funding via access to members who enjoy the Dwindling Great Outdoors.  I hope to keep this in the family for a few more generations, while sharing the beauty and abundance of nature with others who have little opportunity to experience what I have, growing up in Rural America.

Grampy's Red Rock Rabbit Ranch

2 sites · RVs, Tents50 acres · Schwenksville, PA
50-some years ago, the legendary Grampy David made his way to The Red Rock Rabbit Ranch. There he resides: a good-hearted curmudgeon, a handyman, a grumpy, Ywengling-drinking philosopher, the wittiest mason, carpenter, roofer, etc. you'll ever meet. I'm his grandson, a documentary filmmaker helping to make ends meet here by sharing this glorious space with Hip Campers. 50 acres of serene woods, fields, a pond, and Mine Run Creek. Spring Mount Adventures is nearby. The Perkiomen Creek Trail is only a mile away. Crawfish, sycamore trees, foxes, pileated woodpeckers, and more! Caring for the land: please do not collect your own firewood on the land. That wood is decomposing and contributing to the health of the forest, providing numerous habitats for bugs. Note on dogs: we run a dog-sitting business, so there may be a pack (2-5) of dogs that come through the woods with us on walks. All dogs we sit are friendly towards humans. Food recs: Raw Replenish in downtown Schwenksville has healthy smoothies and salads. Thai Spice is ten minutes away. Trouble's End brewing is 15 minutes away in Collegeville, with delicious beer and a Spicy Chicken sandwich.

The best camping near Washington Crossing State Park guide

Overview

About

Way back on Christmas Day in 1776, the struggling Continental Army followed their fearless leader (some George Washington fellow) through the freezing Delaware River, and then marched up the road to Trenton and defeated the Hessians. While we’re not sure we’d recommend forging the Delaware in a Jersey winter for fun, Washington Crossing Park itself is a tranquil escape in the Garden state.

Hike amongst the Revolutionary ghosts—many historic buildings are still open to visitors—and learn about the park’s modern life with its 140-acre interpretative trail. During the summer, a local theatre group performs in the amphitheater, and on Christmas, you can catch an authentic re-enactment of the infamous attack. And, don’t worry, history buffs aren’t the only winners here—science nerds can check out the observatory and many nature programs held in the Nature Center.

When to go

The ideal time to visit Washington Crossing State Park is during the spring and fall when the weather is mild and the natural scenery is at its most vibrant. Summer brings lively park activities, though it can be quite warm. Winters are quieter and offer a stark, peaceful beauty, but some facilities may be less accessible.

Know before you go

  • Check the park's official website for any alerts on closures or safety advisories before your visit.
  • Accessibility varies across different areas of the park, so plan according to your needs.
  • Day-use areas are equipped with picnic tables and restrooms for your convenience.
  • Remember to pack out your trash and respect the park's wildlife and historic sites.
  • For a deeper understanding of the park's significance, consider joining a guided tour.
