Stephens State Park encompasses the remnants of a historical canal that was used to ship iron and coal across the state. When railroads were developed, the canal couldn’t compete and was abandoned. Thanks to these modern advancements, we now have a secluded little oasis along the Musconetcong River—where anglers cast into sweet pools for hidden trout, hikers meander along the rugged trails, and campers nestle into quiet, shady sites for nights relaxing under the blanket of a starry sky. History buffs will enjoy tracing the history of the park and the Morris Canal through interactive exhibits, on-site ruins, and an old Victorian-era homestead. Four seasons of fun and adventure await you at Stephens State Park!
