We have 6 acres that are mainly wooded. Our home and parking area is near the road and the camping area is a 1/4 mile walk back to the back end of the property. Our property is uneven and rocky with moss covering trees and rocks here and there. The campsite is fully wooded and we are slowly working on clearing out dead trees (while leaving some for wildlife). It does get wet after it rains, we have a path made of pallets through the wettest part of our property, but waterproof shoes are useful for exploring. Behind our property is a conservation area which makes our property fairly secluded. We only have a single campsite available, so there won't be anyone else near you. We have a tent and hammocks set up near a small fire pit. The rustic outdoor commode will give you a nature view while using it and it is hidden from your campsite by a large rock. It is our family's favorite hang-out spot to rest and recharge. We are happy to share our favorite space! We have a family micro-farm that has chickens (they may wake you up early if you are a light sleeper!) and grows produce for our family and the little extra that we grow we sell at our roadside stand (depending on the season). Our area's claim to fame is Blue Job Mountain. It is a great small hike that rewards you with great views, whether you hike up Little Blue Job or go to the Fire Tower. We are 1.7 miles down the road from the parking area, so you can walk or drive to the base of the mountain. The path to the camping area is lined with string lights that light up the nearest trees and make it a magical walk at night.Welcome to Always Growing in the Woods! Always Growing Homestead LLC is a micro-farm that specializes in dried herbs and produce. We also create other hand-crafted items. Our home is right along the road and our six-and-a-half acres stretches back about a quarter of a mile into the woods. Behind our property is conservation land. We have a single-family campsite that we use as a space to relax and unwind. It is at the very back of our property so it feels very secluded and private. We have beautiful string lights that light the path from the parking space near the road to the campsite. There is a small fire pit and plenty of fallen wood to burn in it. We have a tent that we keep up, but you are welcome to bring your own instead. There are plenty of trees and it is very shaded. Our favorite tree, who we named Big Bertha, is a lovely pine that is great to hide behind during hide and seek. Wildlife may stop by and say hi! We have seen evidence of deer, fox, raccoon, and plenty of birds. There can be the occasional black bear nearby, but we have never seen them on our property yet. We have hammocks, chairs and a small table at the campsite for your use. There is no vehicle access to the campsite, the walk back is about a quarter of a mile. We have a pallet path in the low area, but it is still uneven terrain and not handicap accessible at this time. We have our family's yard games available at the campsite. We have bocce ball, ladder ball, and ultimate frisbee. Our toilet is an open-air, composting toilet and there is a boulder that will give you little privacy from the rest of the campsite. We have toilet paper in a coffee can (to make it weather-proof) next to the rustic toilet. For trash, we compost everything we can so less trash goes to the dump. Any food scraps can be given to our chickens who will do the composting for us or compostables can be added to the compost pile near the campsite. We ask that you bring trash and recycling back to the parking area. On our micro-farm, we currently have dried herbs, produce, and poultry. We may have eggs and produce available at our farm stand when the season is right. You are welcome to feed the chickens. Our roosters (we usually have 2) are our flock protectors but you can hear them from the campsite, as well as the songs that our ladies sing after laying eggs. They don’t annoy us but if you are a light sleeper you might want to bring earplugs. We always have tons of projects, and our farm area may be a bit messy. The back half of the property we try to keep mostly wild but we still care for the forest as much as we have time for. We are currently working on clearing away years of fallen trees and branches so that people and wildlife have more room to get around. All of those piles of branches are free to use on-site. Always Growing Homestead is 1.7 miles from a favorite local hiking spot. Blue Job Mountain (look up Blue Job Mountain Parking Area on GPS) is a fun and easy hike. There are two main hikes, or you can easily do both. Little Blue Job has great views all around. The fire tower on top of Blue Job Mountain has a great view too, if you are brave enough to climb up it! To see both, it is only a two-mile loop from the parking area. During Blueberry season (Usually Mid-July through August) there are many wild low-bush blueberries all over Blue Job Mountain that are favorites for foraging. Don’t forget to leave some for the wildlife though! During the right season, there are Pink Lady Slippers all over the mountain too. Pink Lady Slippers are orchids that don’t transplant well and as such they have been getting harder and harder to find. We feel very lucky to get to see so many near us! Another season we love is Lightning Bug season. We love to sit and watch them at dusk in our meadow. They are so fun to see, like little shooting stars but much closer! They usually come out in June and sometimes will still be around until Mid-July.
