Find fossils, relax in hot springs, and explore sandpit lakes when camping near Bridgeport.
Beside the twisting arms of North Platte River, Bridgeport campgrounds serve up waterfront views and shaded sites surrounded by cottonwood trees. Tent and RV campers will find all that and more in Bridgeport State Recreation Area. Amenities like picnic tables, grill-topped fire rings, primitive restrooms, and a nearby dump station deliver convenience, as well. Boat and swim in the five sandpit lakes, then reel in rainbow trout and northern pike for dinner. Don’t leave without walking the family-friendly Pond Loop Trail or conquering the more challenging Overlook Trail, which leads to panoramic views of North Platte River. For campgrounds with electrical hookups, drinking water, flush toilets, and showers, head an hour and a half north to Nebraska National Forest. Then, relax in natural hot springs, or hike in Toadstool Geologic Park—hunt for fossils along the way. RVers can also drive on Pine Ridge Scenic Byway to take in the stunning landscape of canyons, forests, and grasslands.
